El invicto wélter Florian Marku superó dificultades y lidió con corte para batir por KOT al excampeón británico Chris Jenkins

Hasta ahora el albanés Florian «The Albanian King» Marku 11(7KO)-0-1 no se había enfrentado a un boxeador con tantas victorias como el excampeón de Reino Unido y de la Commonwealth del peso wélter Chris Jenkins 23(8KO)-5(2)-3, que venía de vencer al extitular unificado Indongo y que cuenta con experiencia ante rivales como Akeem Ennis-Brown o Tyrone Nurse. Esta ventaja en bagaje se notó inicialmente, padeciendo Marku dificultades a las que se sumó un corte, si bien el invicto tiró de tenacidad, pegada y fuerza para terminar anotándose una importante victoria por KOT en el cuarto round.
El británico Jenkins ha tenido altos y bajos en su carrera, pero en esta ocasión pareció ofrecer inicialmente su mejor versión, estando rápido de piernas y manos así como concentrado, desplazándose alrededor de su oponente a la vez que anotaba jabs y directos diestros.
Ante este planteamiento en el primer asalto, en el segundo Marku intentó ajustar poniendo más presión, cambiando de guardia y tratando de buscar golpes de poder decisivos, no teniendo grandes resultados ante la velocidad de su rival pero conectando las suficientes manos en los cruces para que Jenkins decidiese estar más dinámico de nuevo en el tercer round. En cualquier caso, Marku no estaba ni mucho menos cómodo en el enfrentamiento y además padeció un corte por choque de cabezas que fue yendo a peor hasta cubrir de sangre su ojo izquierdo.
En esta situación, y estando ágil y afilado su rival, al albanés no le quedaba otra que tirar de tesón y potencia, por lo que en el cuarto episodio volvió a cambiar su guardia y, en un descuido, consiguió llegar con un cruzado diestro que dañó un tanto a su oponente. Esto no pasó desapercibido para “The Albanian King”, que con una nueva derecha dejó claramente tocado a Jenkins. El local debió haber puesto la rodilla en la lona para intentar recuperarse, pero aguantó como pudo agachado, casi rozando el tapiz, mientras Marku le golpeaba con hooks buscando la detención. Por ello, cuando Jenkins finalmente intentó alejarse se desequilibró mucho y terminó contra las cuerdas, siendo ahí golpeado brevemente sin respuesta antes de que el árbitro decidiese parar el combate.
Haciendo un repaso a su trayectoria profesional boxística y obviando las pésimas lecturas realizadas por los jueces ante Stewart y Prodan, hasta ahora Marku quizás no se había visto en una situación tan compleja como en el arranque ante Jenkins. No obstante, demostrando su determinación y capacidad para competir, Marku lidió con los problemas y consiguió derrotar por KOT a su rival con mejor palmarés, un Jenkins muy motivado pero que, aun así, padeció la derrota más rápida de su carrera.
Por ello, si bien es evidente que Marku sigue necesitando acumular asaltos antes de tener grandes opciones de éxito ante los destacados peso wélter a los que quieren que se enfrente, y en el futuro necesitará ser más cuidadoso en sus ataques, es un púgil que ofrece peleas entretenidas y que tiene cualidades y recursos para lograr algunas importantes victorias si se le eligen los contrincantes adecuados.

Until now the Albanian Florian Marku 11(7KO)-0-1 had not faced a boxer with as many victories as the former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Chris Jenkins 23(8KO)-5(2)-3, who came to this fight after beating former unified titleholder Indongo and who has experience against rivals like Akeem Ennis-Brown or Tyrone Nurse. This advantage for Jenkins had importance initially, as Marku suffered difficulties to which a cut was added, although the undefeated used his tenacity, punch and strength to end up scoring an important victory by TKO in the fourth round.
Jenkins has had ups and downs in his career, but on this occasion he initially seemed to offer his best version, being fast with legs and hands as well as focused, moving around his opponent while landing jabs and straight rights.
Faced with this approach in the first round, in the second Marku tried to adjust by putting more pressure, changing stance and trying to find decisive power shots, not having great results due to the speed of his rival but connecting enough hands in the exchanges so that Jenkins decided to be more dynamic again in the third round. In any case, Marku was far from comfortable in the fight and he also suffered a cut from a clash of heads which got worse until his left eye was covered with blood.
In this situation, and his rival being agile and sharp, the Albanian had no choice but to use his tenacity and power, so in the fourth episode he changed again to orthodox and, in an oversight, managed to connect a right hand which somewhat hurt his opponent. This did not go unnoticed by “The Albanian King”, who with a new right punch put Jenkins in clear trouble. The local should have put his knee on the canvas to try to recover, but he resisted as well as he could crouching, almost touching the mat, while Marku hit him with hooks looking for the stoppage. When Jenkins finally tried to walk away he got very off balance and ended up on the ropes, being hit there briefly before the referee ended the bout.
Reviewing his professional boxing career and ignoring the terrible scorecards against Stewart and Prodan, until now Marku perhaps had not seen himself in such a complex situation as in the start of his match against Jenkins. However, showing his determination and ability to compete, Marku dealt with the problems and managed to TKO his rival with more achievements, a highly motivated Jenkins who, even so, suffered the fastest defeat of his career.
Therefore, although it is clear that Marku still needs to accumulate rounds of experience before having great chances of success against outstanding welterweights, and in the future he will need to be more careful in his attacks, he is a fighter who offers entertaining fights and has the qualities and resources to achieve some important victories if the right opponents are chosen.
