Danny García y Michael Conlan ya tiene fechas y rivales para sus retornos

La última vez que vimos sobre un cuadrilátero al excampeón mundial unificado del peso superligero Danny García fue en diciembre de 2020, cuando perdió una clara decisión unánime ante el monarca wélter Errol Spence. Un año y medio después, García ya tiene un acuerdo para retornar al ring, puesto que el día 30 de julio se enfrentará en Nueva York, Estados Unidos, a José Benavídez Jr., exretador mundial del peso wélter, y hermano de David Benavídez, que viene de una nada convincente actuación en su empate ante Francisco Emanuel Torres.
El enfrentamiento García-Benavídez supondrá el debut en el peso superwélter del primero, que tratará de coronarse en una tercera división de peso, objetivo que parece difícil que culmine teniendo en cuenta cuál ha sido su rendimiento en el peso wélter y el nivel tan alto que se encontrará en el top de la categoría superior.
Otro boxeador que también tiene confirmado su siguiente rival es el bronce olímpico irlandés Michael Conlan, que tras perder en el último asalto uno de los combates del año ante Leigh Wood el pasado marzo, tratará de regresar a la senda del triunfo ante el veterano exaspirante mundial colombiano Miguel Marriaga. El choque se producirá el día 6 de agosto en el SSE Arena de Belfast, Reino Unido, encabezando una velada de Top Rank.
Ciertamente, después de sus derrotas ante Joet González y Eduardo Ramírez en peleas consideradas de “última oportunidad”, a Marriaga no se le espera ya en la cumbre de los rankings del peso pluma, pero sigue siendo un bravo y competente boxeador que debería darle cierto trabajo y útiles rounds para recuperar moral a un Conlan que llega de una sobrecogedora derrota por knockout.

The last time we saw former unified super lightweight world champion Danny Garcia in the ring was in December 2020, when he lost a clear unanimous decision to welterweight champion Errol Spence. A year and a half later, García has an agreement to return to the ring on July 30 in New York, where he will face José Benavídez Jr., former world welterweight challenger (and brother of David Benavídez) that comes from an unconvincing performance in his draw against Francisco Emanuel Torres.
The García-Benavídez clash will be the super welterweight debut of the former, who will try to be crowned in a third weight division, an objective that seems difficult for him to culminate considering his performances at welterweight and the high level that he will find at the top of the 154 lb division.
Another boxer who also has his next rival confirmed is the Irish Olympic bronze medalist Michael Conlan who, after losing one of the fights of the year against Leigh Wood last March, will try to return to winning ways against the veteran Colombian, former world challenger, Miguel Marriaga. The bout will take place on August 6 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, United Kingdom, headlining a Top Rank evening.
Certainly, after his losses to Joet González and Eduardo Ramírez in fights considered «last chance», Marriaga is no longer expected at the top of the featherweight rankings, but he is still a brave and competent fighter who should give some work and useful rounds to restore morale to Conlan, who is coming from a brutal knockout loss.
