Durante un año y medio el estadounidense Trevor Bryan 22(15KO)-1(1) sostuvo el cinturón de subcampeón WBA del peso pesado, algo que utilizó para afirmar falsamente que era campeón mundial. Con todo, más allá de sus declaraciones, su nivel era evidentemente inferior al del top 15, por lo que el británico Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois 18(17KO)-1(1) no tuvo problemas para noquearle en el cuarto round.
Desde el comienzo Dubois conectó su directo de mano adelantada y su derecha recta ante un Bryan lento y con mala defensa, pareciendo que era cuestión de tiempo que el local terminase cayendo. Tirando algún jab disuasorio, agachándose y con algunos clinches, Bryan fue pasando minutos ante un rival que no se volcó al ataque y que eventualmente incluso cedió la iniciativa. Pero aunque tenía mucha calma, Dubois fue impactando esporádicos jabs y rectos antes de dañar a su oponente en el tercer asalto con una derecha precedida por un gancho zurdo, hostigando a Bryan posteriormente con duros hooks.
Con muchas dificultades, Bryan llegó al cuarto asalto, pero en él quedó tocado de nuevo por un curvo zurdo y Dubois terminó sentenciando el enfrentamiento con un potente gancho de izquierda que dejó al estadounidense tendido boca abajo. Bryan se intentó levantar, pero no estaba en condiciones de continuar y el árbitro paró el combate.
Ahora que Dubois posee el cinturón “regular” WBA, en virtud del proceso de reducción de campeones de la Asociación es aspirante obligatorio del monarca unificado Oleksandr Usyk. No obstante, antes de poder acceder a un choque ante el campeón, en teoría Dubois debería tener que encarar una pelea a finales de año ante el ganador de una eliminatoria entre Hughie Fury y Michael Hunter.

For a year and a half, the American Trevor Bryan 22(15KO)-1(1) held the WBA heavyweight “regular” belt, something he used to falsely claim that he was a world champion. However, his level was obviously lower than the top of the division, so the British Daniel «Dynamite» Dubois 18(17KO)-1(1) had no problem knocking him out in the fourth round.
From the start Dubois landed his hard jab and his straight right against the slow and with poor defense Bryan, seeming it was a matter of time before the local ended up falling to the mat. Throwing some dissuasive jabs, ducking and with some clinches, Bryan spent some minutes in the ring against an opponent who did not attack a lot and who eventually even gave up the initiative. But although he was very calm, Dubois landed sporadic jabs and straight punches before hurting his opponent in the third round with a right hand preceded by a left hook, attacking Bryan later with hard hooks.
With many difficulties, Bryan reached the fourth round, but in it he was hurt again by a lead hook, and Dubois ended up the bout with a hard left hook that put the American lying face down. Bryan tried to get up, but he was unable to continue and the referee stopped the fight.
As Dubois holds the “regular” WBA belt in a moment in which the Association is reducing its number of champions, he is the mandatory challenger for the unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. However, before he can access to a duel with the champion, Dubois should have to face theoretically a fight at the end of the year against the winner of an eliminator between Hughie Fury and Michael Hunter.
