Los mejores combates del fin de semana (17-18/6/2022)

En esta semana sólo habrá un campeonato mundial masculino, si bien este duelo será una triple unificación de cinturones que continuará la buena tendencia existente de choques entre monarcas. Además, antes de este enfrentamiento, que cerrará la actividad más relevante del fin de semana, podremos presenciar varios otros choques interesantes.
Viernes 17 de junio
Aunque no será el mejor combate del viernes, seguramente el encuentro que recibirá más atención en la jornada será el duelo del peso pesado entre el británico Nathan Gorman 18(12KO)-1(1) y el checo Tomas Salek 17(13KO)-3(2), que será emitido por Channel 5, o por un PPV de Fite (dependiendo del país en el que se esté), desde el Echo Arena de Liverpool, Reino Unido. El interés principal del combate será ver a Gorman sobre el ring por primera vez desde hace 15 meses y comprobar cómo ha cuidado su peso, si bien es evidente que este hábil púgil será favorito ante Salek, una modesta piedra de toque que ha padecido rápidas derrotas ante rivales más sencillos que el británico.
Por otro lado, en el semifondo de este evento de Wasserman Boxing se producirá otro retorno, ya que el olímpico Josh Kelly 10(6KO)-1(1)-1 disputará su primer combate desde su derrota ante David Avanesyan en febrero de 2021. Su oponente, al que se medirá en el peso superwélter, será el húngaro Peter Kramer 12(8KO)-5(2)-3, que seguramente será derrotado con extrema sencillez.
Quienes, lógicamente, no quieran pagar 10 euros por un PPV en el que la única duda es cómo de rápido vencerán los favoritos, podrán ver dos interesantes eventos con emisión por YouTube.
Uno de ellos contará con un boxeador que posiblemente será pronto aspirante mundial. Este es el invicto peso minimosca filipino Mark Vicelles 16(9KO)-0-1, 2º WBO y 4º WBC e IBF que afrontará uno de sus dos mayores tests ante Jaysever “Lion Hearted” Abcede 21(13KO)-10(2). Aunque Abcede no cuenta con números llamativos, es un duro boxeador que ha tenido múltiples buenas actuaciones, entre ellas un triunfo por KOT en Japón ante el campeón nacional Seigo Yuri Akui, por lo que Vicelles deberá andarse con mucho ojo para no sufrir un revés a sus aspiraciones.
Además, en este cartel, que se producirá en el Parkmall de Mandaue City, Filipinas, el también peso minimosca Christian “The Bomb” Araneta 21(17KO)-2(1), 5º IBF, tratará de sumar una victoria ante el exretador mundial Toto Landero 11(2KO)-7(1)-2, que llega de ajustar al máximo las tarjetas contra el propio Vicelles.
El otro cartel emitido por YouTube será el que tendrá lugar en el DoubleTree Hotel de Ontario, Estados Unidos, organizado por Thompson Boxing. El choque estelar será protagonizado por el enrachado peso gallo estadounidense, 5º WBO y 8º WBA, Saúl “The Beast” Sánchez 18(11KO)-1, que tras anotarse rápidos knockouts ante el prometedor Jarico O’Quinn y el experimentado José Estrella buscará mantener su cadena de victorias ante su compatriota Eros Correa 11(8KO)-1, un buen púgil cuya única derrota llegó a los puntos (decisión mayoritaria) ante el prospecto Katsuma Akitsugi.
En este mismo evento el peso superpluma George Acosta 12(1KO)-1 pondrá fin a un año de inactividad ante Marlin Sims 8(4KO)-1.
Finalmente, el viernes contará con otros dos eventos destacables. Por un lado, en el Estadio Adolfo López Mateos de Reynosa, México, ESPN Knockout y ESPN+ emitirán un campeonato mundial femenino WBC del peso gallo en el que la monarca Yuliahn “Cobrita” Luna 23(4KO)-3-1 afrontará una exigente defensa ante su dura compatriota, y exretadora mundial, Jéssica “La Magnífica” González 8(1KO)-5-2, que en su último combate dio la sorpresa batiendo como visitante a la invicta prospecta Tatyana Zrazhevskaya.
Por otro lado, la plataforma de streaming de ProBox Tv ofrecerá, desde el Gimnasio de Pueblo Nuevo de Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá, una velada en la que el invicto brasileño Jonhatan “Maximus” Cardoso 14(14KO)-0 buscará mantener su 100% de knockouts, y entrar en el ranking WBO por un título menor, enfrentándose al olímpico panameño Juan Huertas 15(11KO)-3(2)-1, que padeció rápidas derrotas en dos de sus últimos tres combates aunque ante rivales como Gary Antuanne Russell y Jon Fernández.
En esta misma cartelera, el veterano Luis Concepción 39(28KO-9(4) tratará de rebotar de su derrota en mundial ante Artem Dalakian peleando contra el venezolano Juan López 15(14KO)-9(3)-1, mientras que el olímpico estadounidense Darrelle Valsaint 3(2KO)-0 disputará su cuarto combate profesional contra el costarricense Encarnación Díaz 12(7KO)-1(1).
Sábado 18 de junio
Con los títulos mundiales WBC, IBF y WBO del peso semipesado en juego, Artur Beterbiev se enfrentará a Joe Smith Jr. en una unificación que dejará al ganador a un solo paso del título indiscutido de la división. En el semifondo, el dos veces oro olímpico Robeisy Ramírez afrontará una pelea crucial ante el invicto Abraham Nova.

El único otro campeonato mundial que se disputará este sábado tendrá lugar en el Club Ferro Carril Oeste de Merlo, Argentina, emitido por TyC Sports. En él, la monarca WBO del peso mosca Tamara Demarco 10(0KO)-4(1) expondrá su corona por primera vez contra su compatriota Gabriela Alaniz 12(4KO)-0.
Si la pelea hubiese tenido lugar en otras circunstancias, quizás Alaniz hubiese sido considerada clara favorita. Pero llegando la titular Demarco de derrotar a la invicta Débora Anahí López, muchos pensarán que ésta retendrá su cinturón. Aun así, Alaniz es una púgil que está teniendo un buen rendimiento y cuyas posibilidades de éxito en esta primera gran oportunidad de su carrera no pueden ser ni mucho menos descartadas.
Otro importante enfrentamiento del día será el que afrontará, en una sala del estadio Elland Road de Leeds, Reino Unido, el peso supergallo Jack Bateson 16(4KO)-0, reciente fichaje de Probellum que se medirá ni más ni menos que al argentino Diego Alberto “El Profeta” Ruiz 23(12KO)-4(1)-1, que llega de empatar como visitante contra el imbatido Lee McGregor. Por lo tanto, el excampeón de Inglaterra Bateson, que cayó a la lona en una ocasión hace tres combates, puede esperar una pelea en la que necesitará su mejor versión, especialmente si quiere iniciar con buen pie su valioso nuevo contrato.
Este evento, cuya retransmisión todavía no está confirmada (a veces las veladas de Bateson Promotions han sido emitidas por YouTube), contará en teoría con la participación de boxeadores como el 3º WBA superligero Ohara Davies 23(16KO)-2(1) y el 1º WBO superpluma Archie Sharp 21(9KO)-0, si bien en rodajes sencillos y ante oponentes por anunciar.
Además de lo ya mencionado, el sábado se producirán estos otros combates:
-En el Gymnase Pierre de Coubertin de Maubeuge, Francia, los peso superwélter Kamel Benyattou 9(7KO)-1(1) y Mathis Lourenco 8(4KO)-4(1)-3 pelearán por el vacante título francés de la división.
-En el Majestic Casino de Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá, el peso supermosca mexicano Salvador “Peloncito” Juárez 16(4KO)-7-2 tratará de continuar su buena racha (en la que ha derrotado a dos invictos) enfrentándose al duro nicaragüense Keyvin Lara 31(11KO)-5(1)-1, boxeador con varias actuaciones muy meritorias y que sólo ha sido noqueado por Kazuto Ioka.
-En el Caesars Palace de Dubái, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, el joven prospecto cubano del peso superpluma Jadier Herrera 6(5KO)-0 continuará con su rápido avance enfrentándose al mexicano Pablo “Diamante” Robles 15(10KO)-2(1), que llega de derrotar por KOT al invicto Alan Solís.
-En Mobo, Filipinas, el prospecto del peso superpluma Criztian Pitt Laurente 9(6KO)-0 afrontará su mayor prueba como profesional ante el invicto Richard Bulacan 8(6KO)-0, si bien este último llega de una importante inactividad.
-En Kinepolis en Lieja, Bélgica, el imbatido excampeón nacional belga del peso wélter Jessy Petit Jean 17(8KO)-0 regresará al ring tras más de dos años parado enfrentándose en el peso superligero al fuerte Irakli Kurasbediani 12(1KO)-2.
-En el Gimnasio Parque Vicente Guerrero de Mexicali, México, el noqueador Ángel “El Furioso” Martínez 14(14KO)-1-1 tratará de anotarse su mayor victoria peleando en el peso wélter contra Jesús Antonio “Chino” Rubio 13(7KO)-5(3)-1, que derrotó al estadounidense Sonny Fredrickson.

This week there will only be one big fight, although this duel will be a triple unification of belts that will continue the good trend of clashes between monarchs. In addition, before this bout, which will close the relevant activity of the weekend, there will be several interesting fights.
Friday, June 17
Although it will not be the best fight on Friday, surely the match that will receive the most attention on the day will be the heavyweight duel between the British Nathan Gorman 18(12KO)-1(1) and the Czech Tomas Salek 17(13KO)-3(2), which will be broadcast on Channel 5, or by a Fite PPV (depending on the country you are in), from the Echo Arena in Liverpool, United Kingdom. The main interest of the fight will be to see Gorman in the ring for the first time in 15 months and check how he has managed his weight, although it is clear that this skilled fighter will be the favorite over Salek, who has suffered quick defeats against easier rivals than the Brit.
In the undercard of this Wasserman Boxing event there will be another return, as the Olympian Josh Kelly 10(6KO)-1(1)-1 will face his first fight since his loss to David Avanesyan in February 2021. His opponen in this super welterweight bout will be the Hungarian Peter Kramer 12(8KO)-5(2)-3, who will surely be defeated without any difficulty.
Those who, logically, do not want to pay for a PPV in which the only question is how quickly the favorites will win, will be able to watch two interesting events broadcast on YouTube.
One of them will feature a boxer who may soon be a world challenger as the undefeated Philippine light flyweight Mark Vicelles 16(9KO)-0-1, 2nd WBO and 4th WBC and IBF who will face one of his biggest tests against Jaysever “Lion Hearted” Abcede 21(13KO)-10(2). Although Abcede does not have great numbers, he is a tough boxer who has had multiple good performances, including a TKO victory in Japan against the national champion Seigo Yuri Akui, so Vicelles must be very careful to avoid suffering a setback to his aspirations.

With the WBC, IBF and WBO world light heavyweight titles at stake, Artur Beterbiev will face Joe Smith Jr. in a unification that will put the winner one step away from the undisputed title. Another important confrontation of the day will be the one that will face, in a room at the Elland Road stadium in Leeds, United Kingdom, the super bantamweight Jack Bateson 16(4KO)-0, Probellum’s recent signing who will face the Argentinian Diego Alberto “El Profeta” Ruiz 23(12KO)-4(1)-1, who comes from a draw as a visitor against the undefeated Lee McGregor. Thus, the former English champion Bateson, who was dropped once three fights ago, can look forward to a fight in which he will need his best version, especially if he wants to get off to a good start on his important new contract.
