Al tercer intento, Mark “Kid Dynamite” Heffron 28(22KO)-2(2)-1 logró finalmente coronarse campeón británico. Esto lo consiguió en el peso supermedio y ante el monarca Lennox Clarke 20(8KO)-2(1)-1, que pese a aguantar fortísimos golpes y mostrar mucha valentía terminó derrotado por KOT en el quinto asalto.
El primer round fue quizás el mejor de la carrera de Heffron, vapuleando al campeón con fortísimos directos, ganchos zurdos, uppercuts diestros y cruzados de derecha que dejaron a Clarke tambaleante y al borde del KOT. Con mucha tenacidad, en el segundo asalto Clarke intentó presionar y llegar con duros hooks, pero en el tercer episodio volvió a ser estremecido por un excelente uppercut diestro y en el cuarto quedó afectado por ganchos al cuerpo.
Aun así, aunque había recibido castigo de sobra para sucumbir, Clarke continuó de pie y realizó ataques con combinaciones de hooks antes de que en el quinto episodio fuese desarbolado por un gancho de mano adelantada. Situado en las cuerdas, el campeón fue golpeado por uppercuts y por un directo diestro enlazado con hook zurdo que llevaron al árbitro a parar el duelo.
Ball derrotó a rival con gran encaje
Si el namibio Nathanael “Natty” Kakololo 14(6KO)-4(1)-1 no hubiese tenida una resistencia a los golpes tan fantástica, el peso pluma británico Nick Ball 16(9KO)-0 habría ganado el enfrentamiento bastante rápido. Pero contando Kakololo con un tremendo encaje y no poco coraje, la pelea se alargó hasta el duodécimo asalto antes de que Ball lograse el KOT.
Con su gran ventaja en altura y alcance y agilidad de piernas, Kakololo podía ser un oponente intrincado para Ball, pero éste escogió los momentos para reducir los espacios e impactar explosivos hooks en corta. En respuesta a ello el visitante trató de usar sus rectos con frecuencia, pero Ball aprovechaba estos ataques para contragolpear con evidente peligro. Así, con sus arremetidas y su timing, el británico compensó los notables esfuerzos con directos y uppercuts de su rival, lo fue desgastando y fue generando una creciente cantidad de momentos de apuro con poderosos hooks zurdos y directos diestros.
Tras estremecer varias veces con sus golpes de poder al africano entre el quinto y el octavo round, pudo dar la sensación de que tarde o temprano Kakololo terminaría cayendo, pero éste aguantó, e incluso trató de hacerse respetar con eventuales ofensivas. Así, la pelea llegó al último round, en el que finalmente Kakololo fue dañado por una derecha y quedó girado mientras era golpeado por duros hooks, produciéndose la detención arbitral.

At the third attempt, Mark “Kid Dynamite” Heffron 28(22KO)-2(2)-1 finally managed to be crowned British champion. He achieved this at super middleweight and against the beltholder Lennox Clarke 20(8KO)-2(1)-1, who despite resisting very powerful shots and showing great courage ended up defeated by TKO in the fifth round.
The first round was perhaps the best of Heffron’s career, battering the champ with hard straight rights, left hooks and right uppercuts that staggered Clarke and put him on the brink of the TKO. With great tenacity, in the second round Clarke tried to put pressure and land powerful hooks, but in the third round he was again rocked by an excellent right uppercut and in the fourth he was hurt by hooks to the body.
Still, though he had been punished enough to succumb, Clarke remained on his feet and threw attacks with combinations of hooks before being badly hurt by a lead hook in the fifth round. On the ropes, the titlist was hit by uppercuts and a right hand linked with a left hook that led the referee to stop the duel.
Ball defeated rival with great chin
If the Namibian Nathanael “Natty” Kakololo 14(6KO)-4(1)-1 did not have such fantastic punch resistance, the British featherweight Nick Ball 16(9KO)-0 would have won the matchup pretty quickly. But with Kakololo having a tremendous chin and a lot of courage, the fight reached the twelfth round before Ball scored the TKO.
With his huge advantage in height and reach and his agility, Kakololo could have been a tricky opponent for Ball, but the latter chose the moments to close the distance and land explosive hooks at short range. In response, the visitor tried to use his straight shots often, but Ball took advantage of these attacks to counterpunch with obvious danger. Thus, with his charges and his timing, the British compensated the remarkable efforts with straight punches and uppercuts from his rival, wore him down and generated an increasing number of difficulties with powerful left hooks and right hands.
After rocking the African boxer several times with his power shots between the fifth and eighth rounds, it could seem that sooner or later Kakololo would end up falling, but he resisted and even tried to hold his ground with eventual offensives. Thus, the fight reached the last round, in which Kakololo was finally hurt by a right hand and turned while he was hit by hard hooks, stopping then the referee the bout.
