Cerrando una muy entretenida velada de Frank Warren, el joven peso medio británico Hamzah Sheeraz 16(12KO)-0 mostró su capacidad para lidiar con las dificultades ante el correoso argentino Francisco Torres 17(5KO)-4(2)-1, quien pese a derribar en una ocasión al local cayó tres veces al tapiz y fue derrotado por KOT en el quinto episodio
El visitante intentó estar activo de manos y piernas para, desplazándose cercano a las cuerdas, dificultar las entradas de Sheeraz. Sin embargo, en el segundo asalto el invicto dejó tocado a Torres con un directo de mano adelantada precedido por un cruzado también zurdo y posteriormente tuvo algunas acciones de peligro con su derecha recta.
Tras estos apuros, en el tercer episodio Torres finalmente fue derribado por un oportuno jab, pero en la reanudación cuando Sheeraz buscó la detención fue tumbado por una dura derecha recta a la contra. Con todo, el asalto no había terminado y Sheeraz no se había arrugado por haber padecido una caída, así que volvió al ataque y algo más tarde logró un nuevo knockdown con un directo diestro descendente.
El argentino alcanzó el descanso y en el cuarto asalto tuvo ciertos resultados con sus jabs y sus movimientos, pero en el quinto round todo terminó: un nuevo recto diestro de Sheeraz arrojó aparatosamente sobre la lona a Torres, que se levantó muy afectado y no pudo evitar que el árbitro, acertadamente, detuviese el combate.
Así Sheeraz logró un cinturón menor WBC que le dará acceso al top 15 del peso medio de este organismo a la vez que apuntará a un paso adelante importante en el último cuarto del año. En esa pugna el joven Sheeraz podría medirse ya a un boxeador ranqueado o a un veterano con renombre para intentar aproximarse hacia una eliminatoria, siendo evidente que tiene importantes cualidades (tenacidad, pegada, dimensiones, precisión, etc.) y que es un boxeador que ofrece entretenimiento pero que todavía tiene aspectos que ajustar que hacen necesario que no se precipite en su elección de oponentes.
McCann derrotó a Beech antes del límite
Por lo general el exretador al título británico James Beech Jr. 14(2KO)-3(1) es un boxeador muy duro y competente, pero ante el prospecto Dennis “The Menace” McCann 13(7KO)-0 fue casi totalmente anulado. Es más, McCann lo derribó dos veces para asestarle la primera derrota antes del límite de su carrera.
Como un torbellino, McCann desbordó a su rival con rápidos cruzados, hooks y directos en el primer asalto, logrando con una furiosa andanada llevar al tapiz a Beech. En el segundo y en el tercer asalto McCann continuó causando daños con su muy precisa izquierda recta y hooks al torso acompañados de grandes esquivas, algunas incluso con las manos bajas. Beech trató de recuperar el orden y en el quinto episodio llegó con algún astuto y aislado directo diestro, pero no podía quebrar el dominio instaurado por su oponente.
Al contrario, McCann continuó siendo de lejos el boxeador más preciso y eficaz tanto en ataque como en defensa, sacudiendo varias veces con sus izquierdazos a su rival, que aun así llegó hasta el octavo round. En éste, un gancho diestro puso en la lona de nuevo a Beech, que en la reanudación fue golpeado por combinaciones de rectos y curvos de McCann hasta que su esquina se vio obligada a tirar la toalla.

Closing a very entertaining evening organized by Frank Warren, the young British middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz 16(12KO)-0 showed his ability to deal with difficulties against the tough Argentinian Francisco Torres 17(5KO)-4(2)-1 who, despite knocking down the local once, fell to the mat three times and was defeated by TKO in the fifth round.
The visitor was active with his hands and legs, moving close to the ropes trying to make difficult for Sheerz to attack. However, in the second round the undefeated hurt Torres with a jab preceded by a left hook and later offered some dangerous actions with his straight right.
After these troubles, in the third round Torres was finally dropped by a well-timed jab, but on the restart when Sheeraz went for the stoppage he suffered a knockdown by a hard counter right hand. Still, the round wasn’t over and Sheeraz was not intimidated, so he charged again and a little later dropped his rival with a straight hand.
The Argentinian reached the break and in the fourth round he had certain results with his jabs and his movements, but in the fifth round it was all over: a new right hand from Sheeraz threw to the canvas Torres, who got up with difficulties and could not prevent the referee from correctly stopping the fight.
Thus Sheeraz conquered a minor WBC belt that will give him access to the middleweight top 15 of this organization while pointing to an important step forward in the last quarter of the year. In this fight, the young Sheeraz could already face a ranked boxer or a renowned veteran to try to get closer to an eliminator, it being evident that he has important qualities (tenacity, punch, size, precision, etc.) and that he is a boxer who offers entertainment but who still has things to adjust that makes necessary to avoid an imprudent choice of opponent.
McCann defeated Beech by stoppage
Former British title challenger James Beech Jr. 14(2KO)-3(1) is usually a very tough and competent fighter, but against the prospect Dennis “The Menace” McCann 13(7KO)-0 he was almost totally neutralized. What’s more, McCann knocked him down twice to deal him his first stoppage loss.
Like a whirlwind, McCann overwhelmed his opponent with quick hooks and straight punches in the first round, scoring shortly latter a knockdown with a furious combination. In the second and third rounds McCann continued to cause damage with his very precise straight left and body shots accompanied by great dodges, some of them even with low hands. Beech tried to recover order and in the fifth episode he landed some astute and isolated straight right hands, but he couldn’t break his opponent’s control.
Instead, McCann continued to be by far the most accurate and effective fighter on offense and defense, rocking several times Beech with his left hands. However, the boxer still made it to the eighth round. In this episode a right hook put Beech back on the mat, and after the restart he was was punished by McCann’s combinations of straight shots and hooks until his corner was forced to throw in the towel.
