Los mejores combates del fin de semana (21-23/7/2022)

El mes de agosto tendrá bastante ajetreo, y habrá incluso más actividad en septiembre. Pero por el momento estamos en julio y en la presente semana habrá pocos eventos destacables. No obstante, como casi siempre, habrá bastantes pugnas menores con las que poder entretenerse antes de un par de interesantes veladas el sábado.
Jueves 21 de julio
En el Stadio Comunale de Masi Torello, Italia, se producirá un combate de revancha entre el excampeón nacional italiano del peso superligero Arblin Kaba 13(2KO)-3(2)-1 y Daniele Zagatti 9(0KO)-2-1, quienes se vieron las caras el pasado noviembre con resultado de victoria unánime para Kaba. De todos modos, desde entonces este boxeador ha sufrido una derrota ante Charlemagne Metonyekpon que le costó la corona italiana y que quizás haya podido tener efecto sobre su moral. En cualquier caso, aunque quizás el combate pueda no parecer muy interesante de entrada para algunos, al menos la visualización del duelo en principio será gratuita a través de YouTube.
Por otro lado, en el Eventfinda Stadium de Auckland, Nueva Zelanda, se producirá un combate en el que el invicto peso semipesado Jerome Pampellone 12(6KO)-0, tras su mayor victoria hasta la fecha con una decisión ante Nikolas Charalampous, afrontará un nuevo paso adelante ante Joshua “Chucky” Francis 12(9KO)-1-1. Este peso crucero no ha perdido un combate desde un tropiezo en su debut, llegando además de un KOT (aunque por lesión) ante el mismo Charalampous, por lo que parece un duelo con sentido.
Finalmente en cuanto al jueves, en el Rebel Entertainment Complex de Toronto, Canadá, el local Steve Rolls 21(12KO)-2(1) disputará su primer enfrentamiento desde su polémica derrota ante Edgar Berlanga. Su pretendido retorno a la senda del triunfo lo realizará en el peso medio ante un oponente invicto pero sin poner a prueba como Shady Gamhour 13(9KO)-0.
Viernes 22 de julio
En cuanto al viernes este estará bastante despoblado. El enfrentamiento más relevante del día es el que sostendrán en el peso superpluma el estadounidense George Acosta 12(1KO)-1 y el mexicano Isaac Avelar 16(10KO)-4(2), pelea que encabezará una velada de Thompson Boxing emitida por YouTube desde el Doubletree Hotel en Ontario, Estados Unidos. En este enfrentamiento Acosta buscará poner fin a 14 meses de inactividad, continuar su racha y anotarse la mayor victoria de su carrera enfrentándose a un Avelar con mucha más experiencia (se ha enfrentado a rivales como Stephen Fulton o Eduardo Ramírez) pero que busca regresar a la senda del triunfo tras dos tropiezos.
Por cantidad de nombres relevantes que participarán en el evento, también destaca la cartelera que se producirá en el Coliseo Carlos “Teo” Cruz de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, ya que en ella combatirán boxeadores como el exretador mundial wélter Thomas Dulorme 25(16KO)-6(3)-1, el exaspirante mundial semipesado Lenin Castillo 22(17KO)-4(1)-1 y el exranqueado semipesado Felix Valera 19(16KO)-5. No obstante, estos tres púgiles serán abrumadores favoritos para vencer antes del límite sus enfrentamientos, respectivamente, ante Abraham Peralta 19(13KO)-11(11), Wilson Santana 14(9KO)-3(3) y Felipe Romero 21(15KO)-20(13)-1.
En esta cartelera, teóricamente emitida por YouTube, también tendrán lugar algunas peleas mejor emparejadas, ya que por ejemplo el invicto peso superpluma colombiano Nike Teherán 16(11KO)-0 afrontará su mayor combate hasta la fecha peleando contra el joven mexicano Gustavo Piña 10(5KO)-4(2)-2, que empató contra el peligroso prospecto Irvin Turrubiartes. Además, el invicto peso semipesado Sanderson Díaz 15(12KO)-0 se medirá a un Ángel Arias 22(18KO)-1 con una única derrota, que fue como visitante, por decisión dividida y causada por el decisivo descuento de dos puntos.
Por lo demás, en la jornada sólo quedan por mencionar un par de veladas desde México. En una de ellas, que se producirá en el Arena Sonora de Hermosillo, el pegador del peso mosca Sergio Mendoza 16(15KO)-0 disputará su segundo combate pactado a diez asaltos, y una prueba a su pegada, ante el fogueado Francisco Gómez 14(11KO)-8(2), que sólo ha sufrido derrotas antes del límite ante dos campeones mundiales como Félix Alvarado y Paul Butler.
En el respaldo, combatirá el joven peso supergallo Jesús “Koreano” Ramírez 19(13KO)-1(1)-3, aunque será muy claro favorito también para vencer a Anthony Jiménez 17(5KO)-3(2)-1.
En la otra, teóricamente emitida por Facebook desde el Auditorio de Matamoros, el peso medio estadounidense sin experiencia de calidad Mark Beuke 8(4KO)-3 se medirá a José “Cobra” Gaona 14(9KO)-7(5), que parecía retirado después de una larga inactividad pero que el año pasado retornó al ring y perdió a los puntos por la mínima ante “Polo” Reyna. En el mismo cartel, el peso ligero José Luis “La Boa” Rodríguez 25(13KO)-15(5)-1, que hace unas temporadas logró un empate ante un invicto kazajo en una velada de ShoBox, tratará de regresar a la senda del triunfo ante Iram Rodríguez 9(2KO)-7(2).
Sábado 23 de julio
El mayor evento del fin de semana será el organizado por Top Rank y ESPN, en el cual el exaspirante mundial Joet González y el excampeón mundial Isaac Dogboe se enfrentarán en una eliminatoria semifinal WBC del peso pluma. En el respaldo Gabriel Flores y Giovanni Cabrera pelearán en un duelo crucial para sus carreras.

En cuanto a peleas titulares, el único mundial de la jornada será el campeonato unificado WBO-IBF del peso minimosca femenino que se desarrollará en el Estadio Municipal Héctor Gallucci de San Lorenzo, Argentina, emitido por TyC Sports. La monarca que expondrá sus coronas será la local Evelin “La Princesita” Bermúdez 16(6KO)-0-1, mientras que su aspirante será la venezolana Yairineth Altuve 13(11KO)-3.
A pesar de que Altuve ofreció actuaciones voluntariosas en sus dos primeros mundiales, precisamente en Argentina (ambos ante Leonela Yúdica), nunca ha logrado una victoria de relieve y Bermúdez se está mostrando recientemente intratable, encadenando tres triunfos por KOT, por lo que es de suponer que la titular podrá retener sus cetros.
En este día también sobresale una de las veladas organizadas por RCC Boxing desde su Academia en Ekaterimburgo, Rusia, en principio emitida en directo por YouTube. Entre la decena de pugnas de este cartel destaca un combate a diez asaltos en el que el sólido peso supergallo ruso Evgenii Liashkov 10(2KO)-2(1) se medirá al astuto tayiko Asror Vokhidov 9(5KO)-1, siendo este un duelo bien emparejado entre púgiles con triunfos ante el complicado Yerzhan Zalilov y ajustadas derrotas divididas ante el hábil Mukhammad Shekhov.
Además, en el evento el peso superpluma Mark Urvanov 20(10KO)-3-1 regresará tras su polémica derrota ante Ángel Rodríguez peleando contra el voluntarioso Dmitrii Khasiev 12(6KO)-3(2)-2; el agresivo peso superpluma Elnur Samedov 13(4KO)-1 se medirá al competente pero menos experimentado uzbeko Javokhirbek Karimov 6(3KO)-0-1; el preciso peso superpluma Ruslan Kamilov 12(6KO)-0-1 se enfrentará a un Murad Aliev 3(1KO)-0-1 que dio la sorpresa logrando una victoria incluso más amplia que el propio Kamilov ante Stanislav Kalitskiy; y el kazajo Yerzhan Zhalilov 13(7KO)-3-2 tratará de sumar su tercer triunfo consecutivo en una pelea del peso pluma ante el capaz ruso Armen Ataev 6(4KO)-4(1)-1.
Concluyendo con el recorrido por este fin de semana:
-En el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, se desarrollará un duelo de invictos peso superpluma entre el campeón de Inglaterra Liam Dillon 10(2KO)-0-1 y el nigeriano Joshua Wahab 22(15KO)-0.
-En el Oldham Leisure Centre de Oldham, Reino Unido, el titular regional (Southern Area) del peso superpluma Michael Gómez Jr. 17(5KO)-1 afrontará una defensa adecuada para su adquisición de experiencia ante Brian Phillips 11(3KO)-2(1).
-En The Fillmore en Philadelphia, Estados Unidos, el invicto peso superpluma William Foster III 14(9KO)-0 tratará de sumar otra victoria significativa a su récord ante Avery Sparrow 11(4KO)-3(1).
-A puerta cerrada, en México, Tv Azteca emitirá una pelea en la que el joven y prometedor peso mosca Ángel Ayala 14(6KO)-0, número 1 WBC, tratará de mantenerse rodado y listo enfrentándose a Miguel Ángel “Joyita” Herrera 22(8KO)-4-5, que llega de perder ante Gohan Rodríguez.
-En Barrie, Canadá, el peso wélter Josh Wagner 11(5KO)-0 afrontará su tercer combate del año ante el mexicano Fernando “Picapiedra” Silva 19(8KO)-15(4)-3, que tiene varias actuaciones meritorias como visitante, entre ellas una derrota por decisión mayoritaria en Canadá ante el entonces invicto Brandon Brewer.

The month of August will be quite busy, and there will be even more activity in September. But at the moment we are in July and this week there will be few notable events. However, as usual, there will be a considerable number of minor bouts to keep us entertained before a couple of interesting cards on Saturday.
Thursday, July 21
At the Stadio Comunale in Masi Torello, Italy, there will be a rematch between former Italian national super lightweight champion Arblin Kaba 13(2KO)-3(2)-1 and Daniele Zagatti 9(0KO)-2-1, who battled last November with a result of unanimous decision victory for Kaba. However, since then Kaba has suffered a loss to Charlemagne Metonyekpon that cost him the Italian crown and that may have had an effect on his morale. In any case, although for many the fight may not seem very interesting at first glance, at least the duel will be free to watch through YouTube.
On the other hand, at the Eventfinda Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, there will be a fight in which the unbeaten light heavyweight Jerome Pampellone 12(6KO)-0, who comes from his biggest victory to date with a unanimous decision over Nikolas Charalampous, will face a new step forward against Joshua “Chucky” Francis 12(9KO)-1-1. This cruiserweight has not lost a fight since a setback in his debut, and in addition in his most recent bout he scored a TKO (although due to injury) against Charalampous, so it seems a duel that makes sense.
Finally as for Thursday, at the Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto, Canada, the local Steve Rolls 21(12KO)-2(1) will have his first fight since his controversial defeat against Edgar Berlanga. His intended return to winning ways will be at middleweight against an undefeated but untested opponent like Shady Gamhour 13(9KO)-0.

As for Friday, it will not have much to highlight. The most relevant bout of the day will be the one between the American George Acosta 12(1KO)-1 and the Mexican Isaac Avelar 16(10KO)-4(2), fight that will headline an evening of Thompson Boxing broadcast on YouTube from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, USA. In this clash, Acosta will seek to put an end to 14 months of inactivity, continue his streak and score the biggest victory of his career facing a boxer with much more experience (Avelar has fought rivals such as Stephen Fulton or Eduardo Ramírez) but who is trying to return to the winning ways after two setbacks.
Due to the number of relevant names that will participate in the event, another mentionable card of the day will be the one that will take place at the Coliseo Carlos “Teo” Cruz in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It will feature boxers such as former world welterweight challenger Thomas Dulorme 25(16KO)-6(3)-1, former world light heavyweight challenger Lenin Castillo 22(17KO)-4(1)-1 and former light heavyweight top 15 Felix Valera 19(16KO)-5. However, these three fighters will be overwhelming favorites to win by stoppage their matches, respectively, against Abraham Peralta 19(13KO)-11(11), Wilson Santana 14(9KO)-3(3) and Felipe Romero 21(15KO)-20(13)-1.
On this card, theoretically aired on YouTube, there will be better matched fights. For example, the undefeated Colombian super featherweight Nike Teheán 16(11KO)-0 will face his biggest bout to date fighting the young Mexican Gustavo Piña 10(5KO)-4(2)-2, who achieved a draw against the dangerous prospect Irvin Turrubiartes. In addition, the undefeated light heavyweight Sanderson Díaz 15(12KO)-0 will clash against a boxer with only one loss as Ángel Arias 22(18KO)-1, defeat which was as a visitor, by split decision and caused by the decisive deduction of two points.
For the rest, in the day there only remains to be mentioned a couple of evenings from Mexico. The biggest event of the weekend will be the one organized by Top Rank and ESPN, bill in which former world title challenger Joet Gonzalez and former world champion Isaac Dogboe will battle in a WBC featherweight semifinal eliminator.
