Con tropiezos decisivos habiéndoles dejado en una posición poco ideal, el exaspirante mundial polaco Nikodem Jezewski 22(10KO)-2(1)-1 y el olímpico alemán Serge “Bavarian Sniper” Michel 13(9KO)-3(3) se jugaban mucho en el duelo de la pasada noche, que podría permitirles coger aire o hundirse más preocupantemente. Así, ambos trataron de sacar lo mejor de sí mismos sobre el ring hasta que las brechas de Michel le arrastraron hacia la derrota en el séptimo round.
La pelea comenzó en la distancia media-larga y cerca del centro del ring, con Michel tratando de imponer su jab ante un Jezewski que era quien aisladamente conectaba golpes de poder. De hecho, en el segundo asalto una derecha a la contra de Jezewski sacudió a Michel, que fue atacado en las cuerdas. Así el local fue cansando a Michel, que daba crecientes muestras de desgaste, que tenía una inflamación en su ojo izquierdo y que, a pesar de algunos astutos directos, empezó a perder terreno en las cartulinas y a ser más golpeado.
Finalmente, en el descanso entre el sexto y el séptimo episodio la esquina de Michel señaló que el púgil no podía continuar por el mal estado de su ojo izquierdo, que ciertamente tenía un aspecto muy preocupante. De ese modo, y sin que se hubiese producido un cabezazo como causa de la lesión, Jezewski se hizo con la victoria.
Después de la pobre imagen dejada en el mundial ante Lawrence Okolie y de sufrir una posterior derrota ante un boxeador inconsistente como el exretador mundial Arthur Mann, este triunfo resultará vital para Jezewski, que seguramente apuntará a una nueva pelea importante en 2023. No obstante, si alcanza una pugna contra un rival de nivel alto seguramente los puntos débiles de su boxeo lastren a Jezewski hasta un nuevo tropiezo.
En cuanto a Michel, con derrotas ante Ryan Ford, Ricards Bolotniks y ahora Jezewski, deja más claro aún que, aunque tiene cualidades técnicas, tiene muchas dificultades para manejarse en peleas exigentes en el boxeo profesional, por lo que difícilmente alguien podrá verle ya como un agente relevante en la parte alta del peso semipesado o crucero.

Affected by decisive defeats that had put them in less than ideal positions, Polish former world title challenger Nikodem Jezewski 22(10KO)-2(1)-1 and German Olympian Serge “Bavarian Sniper” Michel 13(9KO)-3(3) had much at stake in last night’s duel, in which they could stabilize their careers or sink more worryingly. Thus, both tried to do their best in the ring until Michel’s flaws dragged him to defeat in the seventh round.
The fight began in the mid-long distance and near the center of the ring, with Michel trying to impose his jab against Jezewski, who was the boxer who connected isolated power shots. In fact, in the second round a counter right hand from Jezewski rocked Michel, who was attacked on the ropes. Still, the visitor responded with a counter left hook and a subsequent right hook, throwing the Pole off balance before bringing him to his knees with a clear punch to the back of the head. Although the blow was illegal, the referee ruled the knockdown, so Jezewski only had the count as time to recover, something that did not prevent him from continuing in the fight.
From then on Michel had moments when he landed some precise straight hands, but Jezewski, despite the difficulties, gradually put in more consistent work through some pressure, one-two-hooks and hook combinations with his rival on the ropes. Thus, the local tired Michel, who showed increasing signs of being worn out, who had an inflammation in his left eye and who, despite some clever straight shots, began to lose ground on the scorecards and to be hit more.
Finally, in the break between the sixth and seventh episodes, Michel’s corner informed the referee that the fighter could not continue due to the bad condition of his left eye, which certainly had a very worrying appearance. In this way, and without a headbutt having caused the injury, Jezewski took the victory.
After the bad performance he had in the world championship against Lawrence Okolie and after suffering a loss against an inconsistent boxer like former world title challenger Arthur Mann, this victory is crucial for Jezewski, who will surely point to a new important fight in 2023. However, if he reaches a fight against a high level opponent, the weak points of his boxing surely will bring Jezewski to another setback.
As for Michel, with losses to Ryan Ford, Ricards Bolotniks and now Jezewski, he makes it even clearer that, although he has technical qualities, has a lot of difficulties handling demanding fights in professional boxing, so hardly anyone will still see him as a relevant name in the upper part of the light heavyweight or cruiserweight divisions.
