Paro vs. Jarvis, Skye Nicolson, Demsey McKean, etc. en confirmada velada de Matchroom Boxing/DAZN

Desde hace meses se sabía que Matchroom Boxing iba a dar un nuevo paso adelante en su expansión organizando veladas en Australia, pero este plan no se había materializado en una cartelera definitiva hasta este martes. Hoy se ha anunciado oficialmente que Matchroom y DAZN ofrecerán un evento el 15 de octubre desde South Bank Piazza en Brisbane, Australia, en el que participarán nombres importantes del boxeo australiano.
Ejemplo de ello es el combate estelar, en el que los invictos clasificados mundiales del peso superligero Liam Paro y Brock Jarvis batallarán para alcanzar una gran oportunidad en la división. Se debe destacar que Paro es 2º WBO y que se espera que el cinturón de dicho organismo quede vacante en no mucho tiempo, así que de ganar podría llegar a alcanzar una pelea mundialista ante el número 1 de la lista, Teófimo López.
Además, en el evento participarán otros invictos como Skye Nicolson, que peleará por el título de la Commonwealth del peso pluma contra Krystina Jacobs; como el peso supermedio Abdoulaye Mayweather, que afrontará un serio test ante el también imbatido César Mateo Tapia; y el peso pesado Demsey McKean, 10º WBO y 13º IBF que peleará contra el asequible Patrick Korte.
Desbordante de confianza, o al menos queriendo fingirlo, Paro señaló:
“Mi clasificación habla por sí misma; no he tomado atajos para llegar hasta aquí. No voy a perder contra un tío que no está a mi nivel. Su equipo comprenderá rápidamente que han hecho el movimiento equivocado persiguiendo un combate contra mí. La noche del combate voy a mostraros por qué estoy clasificado el número 1 [en realidad es 2º]. Tengo una declaración de intenciones que hacer. Quiero ser un nombre destacado en Australia, y este es otro tío en mi camino. Este es mi destino así que no le voy a dejar que venga y lo rompa, de ninguna manera. No teníamos que aceptar este combate. Podríamos habernos sentado tranquilamente en el número 1 hasta que llegase ese título, pero me encanta pelear. Eso es lo que hago”.
Muchísimo más modesto, pero no menos entusiasmado, Jarvis dijo:
“Matchroom Boxing es la mayor promotora en el mundo y es fantástico que venga a Australia. Estoy muy orgulloso y emocionado por ser parte de su primer evento aquí, y estoy deseando ofrecer un espectáculo para todo el mundo. Estoy muy agradecido por tener esta oportunidad. Parece casi injusto que tenga esa pelea contra el número 1 del mundo [de nuevo, es el número 2 WBO] sin ni siquiera haber competido en la división de las 140 lb [peso superligero], pero así es como han ido las cosas y tengo mucha suerte de tener la oportunidad. Voy a aprovecharla al máximo”.

For months it had been known that Matchroom Boxing was going to take a new step forward in its expansion by organizing evenings in Australia, but this plan had not materialized in a confirmed bill until this Tuesday. Today it has been officially announced that Matchroom and DAZN will offer an event on October 15 from the South Bank Piazza in Brisbane, Australia, in which will participate important names in Australian boxing.
An example of this is the main event, in which two undefeated world ranked super lightweights as Liam Paro and Brock Jarvis will battle to reach a great opportunity in the division. It should be noted that Paro is 2nd WBO and that it is expected that the belt of that organization will be vacant soon, so in case of victory he could access to a world title bout against the number 1 on the list, Teófimo López.
In addition, the card will feature other undefeated boxers such as Skye Nicolson, who will fight for the Commonwealth featherweight title against Krystina Jacobs; the super middleweight Abdoulaye Mayweather, who will face a serious test against the also unbeaten César Mateo Tapia; and the heavyweight, 10th WBO and 13th IBF, Demsey McKean, who will fight an, in theory, easy opponent, Patrick Korte.
With immense confidence, or at least wanting to seem like it, Paro stated:
“My rankings speak for themselves; I’ve taken no short cuts to get here. I ain’t losing to a guy who isn’t on my level. His team will quickly realize that they’ve made the wrong move chasing a fight with me. On fight night I’ll show you why I’m rated No.1 [he is actually No.2] I’ve got a statement to make. I want to be a household name in Australia, and this is another guy in my way. This is my destiny so I’m not letting him come here a wreck it – no way. We didn’t have to take this fight. We could have sat pretty at No.1 until that title came but I love to fight. This is what I do.”
Much more modest, but no less enthusiastic, Jarvis said:
“Matchroom boxing is the biggest promotional company in the world and it’s fantastic that they are coming to Australia. I’m really proud and excited to be part of their first event here and I’m looking forward to putting on a show for everyone. I’m very grateful to get the opportunity. It almost seems unfair that I get a shot at world No.1 [again, Paro is WBO number 2] without even having competed in the 140lbs division but that’s just the way that it went and I’m very lucky to get the opportunity. I’m going to make the most of it.”
