Desde hace tiempo es de sobra conocido por quienes han seguido su carrera que el peso supermedio francés Christian “Solide” Mbilli 22(20KO)-0 tiene el potencial para ser un aspirante destacado en la división. Por ello, no resultó sorprenderte que en su combate más reciente una vez más arrollase a su oponente, en esta ocasión el estadounidense DeAndre “Axeman” Ware 15(9KO)-4(3)-2, que padeció la derrota más rápida de su carrera.
Tras ciertas pruebas y un minuto transcurrido, un cruzado zurdo de Mbilli estalló contra Ware, que cayó a la lona por primera vez. Dado que Mbilli no se abalanzó sobre su rival buscando la detención y el estadounidense es un boxeador con experiencia, Ware pudo resistir el resto del asalto tirando golpes disuasorios, bloqueando y moviéndose. Pero en el segundo round los problemas volvieron a llegar para Ware, que fue golpeado por hooks arriba y abajo hasta que una brutal mano diestra le hizo poner los guantes en la lona.
En la reanudación Mbilli continuó su fiero hostigamiento, tambaleando a su rival, hasta que, tras un gancho zurdo abajo y un cruzado diestro arriba, Ware se arrodilló en el tapiz a la vez que el árbitro detenía el combate.
El peso supermedio es una categoría complicada actualmente, ya que son muchos los contendientes de calibre y pocas las oportunidades titulares estando los cuatro cinturones mundiales unificados en manos de Canelo. No obstante, es por eso mismo que Mbilli y los demás clasificados necesitan dejar de afrontar peleas ante piedras de toque y empezar a encarar pugnas determinantes para sus carreras, ya que los combates ante boxeadores asequibles nada les aportarán ni a ellos ni a los aficionados.
Brevísimo respaldo
Las dos pugnas principales del respaldo prácticamente no llegaron ni a comenzar, terminando ambas en el primer round y tras un tiempo combinado de menos de un minuto y medio.
En una la oro mundial amateur canadiense Mary Elizabeth Spencer 7(5KO)-0 castigó a la exretadora mundial mexicana Cynthia “Canelita” Lozano 9(7KO)-2(2) con jabs, ganchos zurdos y otros golpes de poder hasta que la derribó con 45 segundos transcurridos. En la reanudación Spencer continuó sus ataques hasta el KOT, con el que demostró que es una seria amenaza en la categoría, especialmente teniendo en cuenta que la monarca IBF Marie Eve Dicaire necesitó siete rounds para terminar con la misma Lozano.
En cuanto a la otra pugna, esta centró las miradas en la velada por lo esperpéntica que fue. Y es que el peso pesado Simon “The Grizzly” Kean 22(21KO)-1(1) no tuvo que hacer absolutamente nada para batir por knockout a Newfel Ouatah 18(10KO)-5(5), que justo al empezar el “duelo” se arrodilló, sin mediar golpe, durante la cuenta completa renunciando a continuar mientras alzaba un brazo a modo de “protesta”. Según se ha desvelado, el motivo de ello fue que la federación francesa no le había dado permiso para combatir y afrontaba el combate sin estar asegurado.

Those who have followed the career of French super middleweight Christian “Solide” Mbilli 22 (20KO)-0 know that he has the potential to be an important contender in the division. Therefore, it was not surprising that in his most recent fight he once again overwhelmed his opponent, the American DeAndre “Axeman” Ware 15(9KO)-4(3)-2, who suffered the fastest defeat of his career.
After some testing and a minute elapsed, a left hook from Mbilli exploded against Ware, who fell to the canvas for the first time. Since Mbilli didn’t jump immediately on his opponent looking for the stoppage and the American is an experienced boxer, Ware was able to resist the remaining time of the round by throwing dissuasive punches, blocking and moving. But in the second round the problems came again for Ware, who was hit by hooks up and down until a brutal right hand made him put the gloves on the canvas.
After the restart Mbilli continued his fierce attack, staggering his opponent until, after a left hook down and a right hook up, Ware knelt on the mat as the referee stopped the fight.
Super middleweight is a difficult weight class at the moment, as there are many high-level contenders and few title fights with the four unified world belts in the hands of Canelo. Yet that is exactly why Mbilli and the other ranked fighters need to stop facing stepping stones and journeymen and start facing career-defining bouts, as the clashes against easy opposition will do nothing for them or the fans.
Very brief main support
The two main support fights barely even got started, both ending in the first round and after a combined time of less than a minute and a half.
In one of them, Canadian world gold medalist Mary Elizabeth Spencer 7(5KO)-0 punished Mexican, former world challenger, Cynthia “Canelita” Lozano 9(7KO)-2(2) with jabs, left hooks and other power shots until she knocked her down with 45 seconds elapsed. At the restart, Spencer continued her attacks until the stoppage, with which she showed that she is a serious threat in the division, especially considering that the IBF champion Marie Eve Dicaire needed seven rounds to get rid of Lozano.
As for the other “fight”, this focused attention in the evening because of how grotesque it was. Canadian heavyweight Simon “The Grizzly” Kean 22(21KO)-1(1) did not have to do absolutely anything to beat Newfel Ouatah 18(10KO)-5(5) by knockout. Right at the beginning of the “duel”, the visitor knelt down, without receiving a single blow, during the entire count, refusing to continue while raising an arm as a “protest”. It has been revealed that the reason for this was that the French federation had not given him permission to fight and he was facing the bout without being insured.
