El invicto supermedio Lukasz Stanioch perdió su récord invicto en inesperada derrota ante el veterano Khoren Gevor

Habiendo debutado ni más ni menos que en el año 2000, no habiendo disputado un solo combate en más de dos años, llegando de una derrota ante Giovanni De Carolis y sólo habiendo combatido tres veces desde el año 2012, estaba claro que el veterano armenio, cercano al retiro, Khoren Gevor 35(17KO)-10(2) no podía ser considerado favorito combatiendo como visitante ante el invicto peso supermedio Lukasz Stanioch 8(1KO)-1. Incluso aunque Stanioch había tenido actuaciones poco o nada convincentes.
No obstante, en un sorprendente resultado contra pronóstico, Gevor padeció una brecha que llevó la pelea a una decisión técnica en la que logró la victoria de forma dividida y con cartulinas de 48-47, 47-48 y 46-49.
Aunque tenía importante desventaja en altura (en su día militó en el peso superwélter), el zurdo Gevor usó su experiencia para desplazarse cercano a las cuerdas y, eventualmente, interrumpir sus pasos laterales para sacar jabs y directos arriba o abajo ante los que Stanioch no supo contragolpear. De hecho, fue Gevor quien, de forma inesperada, también arremetió lanzando hooks al torso anticipándose al local, que tenía muchos problemas para lidiar con la técnica de un boxeador lejos de su mejor estado de forma.
De hecho, el armenio no pudo mantener durante muchos minutos su eficacia y terminó cansándose pronto, por lo que en el tercer y el cuarto asalto hubo momentos en los que quedó fijado en las cuerdas y recibió uno-dos de un Stanioch que ahora veía su oportunidad de reaccionar. Con todo, entre algunas buenas esquivas y desvíos de Gevor, ciertas manos aisladas astutas y acciones disputadas y variantes en un quinto asalto que fue el final, el visitante logró el margen suficiente para que dos de los jueces le viesen como el boxeador superior cuando las acciones fueron detenidas.
Esto sucedió a causa de una seria brecha sobre la ceja izquierda de Gevor que sangró mucho y que convenció a la doctora de que no era posible dejarle continuar.
Seguramente, si no se hubiese producir el choque de cabezas el cansancio de Gevor habría empeorado hasta permitir a Stanioch tomar el control, siendo realmente afortunado el ganador por haberse parado el combate justo en el momento adecuado para sus intereses. Aun así, es cierto que Gevor usó su bagaje para manejarse bien en los primeros rounds y fue tenaz cuando las cosas se empezaban a complicar, logrando un triunfo que seguramente le valdrá una nueva llamada para hacer de test de un púgil con aspiraciones.
En cuanto a Stanioch, esta primera derrota no debe ser valorada como una debacle (casi ninguna lo es), pero es verdad que pone de manifiesto algo que ya se había podido apreciar anteriormente en su carrera, o sea, que tiene brechas tácticas y técnicas, así como problemas para ser determinante en sus acciones, que necesita reparar si pretende encaminarse hasta el top 15.

Having made his debut in the year 2000, not having fought in over two years, coming from a loss to Giovanni De Carolis and having only stepped into the ring three times since 2012, it was clear that the Armenian veteran, close to retirement, Khoren Gevor 35(17KO)-10(2) could not be seen as the favorite in a bout on the road against undefeated super middleweight Lukasz Stanioch 8(1KO)-1. Not even considering that the Pole Stanioch has had unconvincing performances.
However, in an upset, Gevor suffered a cut that led to a technical decision in which he won with scorecards of 48-47, 47-48 and 46-49.
Although he had a significant height disadvantage (he was once a super welterweight), the southpaw Gevor used his experience to move close to the ropes and sporadically interrupt his lateral steps to connect jabs and straight hands up or down that Stanioch did not know how to counterattack. In fact, it was Gevor who, unexpectedly, also threw offensives with hooks to the body before Stanioch could attack. So, Stanioch was having a lot of trouble dealing with the technique of a boxer far from his best shape.
The Armenian could not maintain his efficiency for many minutes and ended up getting tired quickly, so in the third and fourth rounds there were moments when he was put on the ropes and received one-twos from Stanioch, who now saw an opportunity to comeback. All in all, with good dodging and parrying and some clever isolated hands by Gevor, and close actions and variations in a fifth round that was the last of the bout, the visitor managed to get a margin to convince two of the judges of that he was the superior boxer before the fight stopped.
This happened due to a cut on Gevor’s left eyebrow that bled profusely and that the doctor considered too sever to let the match continue.
Surely, if the clash of heads had not occurred, Gevor’s fatigue would have worsened and that would have allowed Stanioch to take control, so the winner was really lucky that the fight was stopped just at the right time for him. Even so, it is true that Gevor used his experience to box well in the first rounds and was tenacious when things started to get tricky, achieving a victory that will surely earn him a new call to be a test for a fighter with aspirations.
As for Stanioch, this first defeat should not be considered a catastrophe, but it is true that it highlights something that had already been seen before in his career, that is, that he has tactical and technical flaws, as well as difficulties being determinant in his actions, which he needs to repair if he intends to make his way to the top 15.
