Un jueves más, Round Zero Fight Night ofreció una velada desde México en la que se produjo como combate estelar un bien emparejado duelo entre dos jóvenes púgiles dispuestos a luchar por el triunfo. En esta ocasión los contendientes fueron Miguel “Mickey” Martínez 8(2KO)-3 y Alexis “El Chino” González 8(7KO)-2-1, siendo el primero el que logró la merecida victoria por decisión dividida de los jueces en un encuentro pactado a ocho asaltos.
La ventaja en potencia de González, que durante la primera mitad poseyó la iniciativa, le permitió impactar algunos buenos hooks arriba o abajo que posiblemente fueron los más contundentes de los asaltos. Sin embargo, por lo general su cadencia de puños era baja y a menudo se veía fuera de la distancia de golpeo por los desplazamientos laterales de Martínez, que tiene más habilidad.
Así, “Mickey” pudo utilizar su jab y sus directos desde la distancia media para frenar y dificultar el avance de su contrincante, mientras que en la distancia corta se apoyó en su destreza para impactar combinaciones uppercut-gancho y hooks de mano adelantada con variación de altura.
Esto le permitió a Martínez ponerse por delante en el encuentro, tomando González hacia la mitad una errada decisión estratégica que pudo sentenciar el resultado: en el cuarto asalto disminuyó su acometividad y en el quinto incluso cedió la iniciativa y se dejó encerrar en las cuerdas, donde fue golpeado por manos tenues pero sin poder ofrecer adecuada respuesta.
Posteriormente, “El Chino” volvió a la carga, pero lo hizo de forma oscilante y sus buenos golpes de poder no siempre pudieron compensar las habituales manos de un Martínez que, sin ofrecer su mejor versión o una ejecución táctica perfecta, fue más astuto y eficaz que su contrincante.
Este triunfo de “Mickey” Martínez, además de ser el primero que logra a ocho rounds, le sirvió para encadenar tres victorias con las que deja atrás la peor racha de su corta carrera (en 2021 tuvo dos derrotas consecutivas). Asimismo, capturó un título regional mexicano que debería darle nuevas peleas útiles para su desarrollo y, si consigue mantenerse lo suficientemente regular, permitirle aspirar a largo plazo a la disputa del campeonato mexicano.

One more Thursday, Round Zero Fight Night offered an evening from Mexico in which the main event was a well-matched duel between two young boxers willing to fight for victory. On this occasion the contenders were Miguel «Mickey» Martínez 8(2KO)-3 and Alexis «El Chino» González 8(7KO)-2-1, eight round fight in which the former achieved a deserved victory by split decision of the judges.
The advantage in power of González, who had the initiative during the first half, allowed him to land some good hooks up or down that were possibly the most eye-catching of the rounds. However, his punch rate was generally low and he was often out of striking distance by the lateral movements of Martinez, who is more skillful.
Thus, «Mickey» was able to use his jab and his straight shots from the middle distance to slow down and hinder his opponent’s advance, while in the short distance he relied on his ability to connect uppercut-hook combinations and lead hooks changing levels.
When Martínez took the lead on the cards, González made a mistaken strategic decision that was decisive in the result: in the fourth round he decreased his aggressiveness and in the fifth he even gave up the initiative and allowed his opponent to corner him on the ropes, position where he was hit by weak hands but without being able to offer an adequate answer.
Later, «El Chino» came back on the attack, but he did it in an oscillating way, and his good power shots not always compensated for the frequent hands from Martínez, who despite not offering his best version or a perfect tactical execution, was more astute and effective than his opponent.
This victory for “Mickey” Martínez, in addition to being the first he achieves in an eight-rounder, served him to string together three victories with which he lefts behind the worst streak of his short career (in 2021 he had two consecutive losses). Also, he captured a regional Mexican title that should give him useful new fights for his development and, if he manages to stay consistent enough, will allow him to aspire in the long-term to the Mexican championship.
