Se suponía que la campeona indiscutida del peso superligero se iba a decidir en un torneo organizado conjuntamente entre Matchroom Boxing y DiBella Entertainment. Pero tras la controvertida victoria de Kali Reis sobre Jessica Camara en una de las semifinales, la primera de ambas decidió seguir una carrera como actriz que es infinitamente menos arriesgada que enfrentarse en la final del torneo a la excelente púgil británica Chantelle Cameron 16(8KO)-0. Ésta por su parte derrotó claramente en la otra semifinal a Mary McGee en una intensa batalla que demostró su versatilidad.
Después de que Reis haya mantenido estancada la situación en la división, los cinturones WBA-WBO de la estadounidense han sido dejados vacantes por los organismos, así que Cameron, monarca WBC-IBF, accederá finalmente a su objetivo de pelear por la corona indiscutida del peso superligero el sábado en el Etihad Arena de Abu Dhabi, Emiratos Árabes Unidos.
Su oponente en este enfrentamiento será una boxeadora que ya sabe lo que es poseer cuatro cinturones de una misma categoría a la vez, puesto que se medirá a la estadounidense, campeona indiscutida del peso wélter, Jessica McCaskill 12(5KO)-2, que desciende de división para buscar lograr otro hito histórico en su carrera. Este movimiento no debe ser visto como un salto al vacío en cuanto al corte de peso, puesto que McCaskill daba el límite wélter sobradamente y hasta 2019 fue monarca unificada en el superligero.
No es el peso el motivo por el que McCaskill asume un gran riesgo en este combate, sino por la desventaja técnica y táctica que tiene con Cameron. La británica es una hábil boxeadora, con gran gestión de los golpes de poder y muy buen control de los espacios que es capaz de imponer sus directos firmemente en la distancia larga y que se maneja con eficacia en los cruces en corta.
En cambio, McCaskill, que tiene graves limitaciones técnicas y que a menudo parece más una peleadora callejera que una boxeadora profesional, sólo sabe intentar abrumar a sus rivales con presión y mazazos descontrolados, no pocas veces terminados en clinches y forcejeos en corta. Esto le ha servido de momento para que en su carrera reciente sólo le haya derrotado Katie Taylor. Pero es cierto también que, exceptuando sus sencillos triunfos ante rivales que ofrecieron malas actuaciones como Alma Ibarra y Kandi Wyatt, McCaskill sólo se ha anotado triunfos controvertidos o cuestionables ante Cecilia Braekhus, Erica Farías y Anahí Sánchez.
Por lo tanto, aunque Cameron debería andarse con mucho ojo para que su boxeo no se vea contenido en una enredada pelea sin espacios, su victoria parece el resultado más probable. Especialmente no contando seguramente esta vez McCaskill con la ayuda de los jueces ante una rival que es una de las boxeadoras británicas de Matchroom Boxing con mayor proyección.
Si logra mantenerse alejada de McCaskill, Cameron no debería tener dificultades para hacer valer su destreza, mientras que a poco que pueda dar cierto recorrido a sus golpes en corta, su habilidad encontrando huecos y sus compactos puños deberían servirle para ofrecer el trabajo más significativo.
Mundial IBF del peso superpluma
En el respaldo de este evento, encabezado por el Bivol-Zurdo, se desarrollará también un campeonato mundial IBF por el vacante cetro del peso superpluma en el que se verán las caras, en un choque de estilos, el móvil británico Zelfa “Brown Flash” Barrett 28(16KO)-1 y el contundente tayiko Shavkat Rakhimov 16(13KO)-0-1.
Este enfrentamiento llega como un remplazo del duelo original Joe Cordina vs. Rakhimov, ya que el primero padeció una presunta lesión que le impidió encarar finalmente este choque aplazado una vez tras otra. Así, quien pasó a encarar el reto de medirse al invicto fue un compañero de escuadra de Cordina como Barrett, que es considerado el no favorito en el choque. Es innegable que, cuando no comete fallos, sus desplazamientos y su velocidad de manos pueden hacer las cosas realmente incómodas. Pero el problema es que no pocas de sus actuaciones han estado plagadas de errores.
Algunos afirmarán que llegando Barrett de dos amplias victorias ante púgiles de presión como Bruno Tarimo y Faroukh Kourbanov ha demostrado que no hay motivos para dudar de sus opciones ante un Rakhimov bastante frontal en su avance. Con todo, el tayiko es muchísimo más fuerte, potente, insistente y peligroso que los arriba citados, y además ya ha demostrado sus capacidades ante oponentes dinámicos de nivel alto noqueando como visitante a Azinga Fuzile.
Así, Barrett puede esperar tener sobre su cabeza una amenaza que buscará noquearle durante doce asaltos. Ciertamente, Rakhimov no es imbatible, puesto que sólo pudo sacar un empate ante un boxeador lento de piernas y con problemas en la gestión del ritmo como “Jo Jo” Díaz, y Barrett podría llegar a merecer una decisión si, acompañando a su juego de piernas, lanza golpes con gran cadencia y se muestra atento para explotar las múltiples oportunidades al contragolpe que su rival le dará. Pero si no consigue evitar que Rakhimov le lleve a la distancia corta de forma consistente, a Barrett no le quedará otra que intentar confiar en su encaje y en su capacidad para sobrevivir.
La cartelera del Bivol-Ramírez, que contará también con un combate del peso mosca entre el oro olímpico Galal Yafai 2(2KO)-0 y el mexicano Gohan Rodríguez 12(1KO)-1-1, será emitido por DAZN el sábado desde las 18:30, las 13:30 ET/10:30 PT.

The undisputed super lightweight champion was supposed to be decided in a tournament co-organized by Matchroom Boxing and DiBella Entertainment. But after Kali Reis’ controversial victory over Jessica Camara in one of the semifinals, the former decided to pursue a career as an actress that is infinitely less risky than facing the excellent British boxer Chantelle Cameron 16(8KO)-0 in the final of the tournament. For her part, Cameron clearly won her semifinal match against Mary McGee in an intense battle that showed her versatility.
After Reis has kept the situation in the division stalemated, the WBA-WBO belts owned by the American have been vacated by these organizations, so Cameron, WBC-IBF titlist, will finally reach her goal of fighting for the undisputed super lightweight crown on Saturday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

So, it’s not the weight that makes McCaskill’s move a risky one, but the technical and tactical disadvantages she will have against Cameron. The latter is a skilled boxer, with great management of power shots and a very good control of distance that is capable of imposing her straight punches firmly in the long distance and battle effectively in exchanges at short range.
In contrast, McCaskill, who has serious technical limitations and who often looks more like a street fighter than a professional boxer, only tries to overwhelm her opponents with uncontrolled pressure and crudely thrown punches, her attacks often ending in clinches. With that kind of “boxing” she has avoided defeat in her recent career against all her opponents but Katie Taylor. However, it is also true that, except for her easy victories against rivals who offered poor performances such as Alma Ibarra and Kandi Wyatt, McCaskill has only scored controversial or questionable wins against Cecilia Braekhus, Erica Farías and Anahí Sánchez.
Therefore, although Cameron should be very careful so that her boxing is not contained in a messy fight without spaces, her victory seems the most likely result. IBF world super featherweight championship
In the support of this event, headlined by the Bivol-Zurdo fight, an IBF world championship for the vacant super featherweight title will also take place. All in all, the Tajik is much stronger, more powerful, insistent and dangerous than those boxers mentioned above, and he has proven his qualities against a very mobile opponent by knocking out Azinga Fuzile as a visitor.
Thus, Barrett can expect to have a serious threat over him from a fighter that will seek to knock him out for twelve rounds. Certainly, Rakhimov is not unbeatable, since he could only achieve a draw against a slow-legged boxer with pace management issues like «Jo Jo» Diaz, and Barrett could aspire to win a decision if, along his footwork, he throws punches very frequently and is ready to exploit the multiple counterpunch opportunities that his opponent will give him. But if he can’t avoid being dragged consistently to close range by Rakhimov, Barrett will have no choice but to try to trust his chin and his ability to survive.
