El top 15 en tres organismos Ludumo “9mm” Lamati inició andadura en el peso pluma con KO sobre “El Heneral”

Está por ver cómo se trasladará su posicionamiento de top 15 del peso supergallo en tres organismos a la nueva división, pero en principio parece que el sudafricano Ludumo “9mm” Lamati 21(11KO)-0-1 en adelante piensa militar en el peso pluma. Esta nueva etapa en su andadura profesional Lamati la inició derrotando por knockout en el cuarto round al filipino Mark Anthony “El Heneral” Geraldo 38(19KO)-12(3)-3, al que el combate pareció venirle grande en todos los sentidos.
Aunque Geraldo también ascendía desde el peso supergallo para este choque, el salto de categoría pareció demasiado para un boxeador que en su momento militó en el peso supermosca y mosca. Así, enfrentándose a un Lamati con un alcance anunciado como 1,80 m (71”) y con más velocidad, frescura y motivación, el zurdo Geraldo estuvo incómodo desde el comienzo.
En el primer asalto sólo hubo tenues jabs y tanteo, pero en el segundo Lamati empezó a sacar su mano diestra a través de directos, ganchos y uppercuts, alcanzando a un Geraldo que intentaba realizar alguna eventual embestida con gancho al torso de limitado éxito. Finalmente, una vez que el dominio táctico de Lamati se había más que afianzado, un directo diestro sacudió a Geraldo, que casi inmediatamente después cayó a la lona por lo que pareció un directo diestro al cuerpo (el ángulo ofrecido por las cámara no lo dejó ver con claridad). El filipino no se alzó durante la cuenta y el choque terminó ahí.
Si bien Lamati era más grande, el hecho es que ambos eran pesos supergallos que ascendían al peso pluma y que Geraldo normalmente se muestra notablemente resistente. En cambio, en esta ocasión el tagalo padeció la derrota más rápida de su carrera. Por ello, aunque Lamati no es un prospecto que vaya a entusiasmar a las masas, es un invicto con ciertas cualidades y que posiblemente reciba una buena posición en las listas. Así que, si no es que algún gran promotor extranjero le hace una buena oferta (en los últimos tiempos hemos visto sobre rings estadounidenses a sudafricanos como Fuzile o Nontshinga), por lo menos Lamati podrá encontrar interesantes choques en el ámbito nacional con los que intentar fortificar sus aspiraciones internacionales.

It remains to be seen how his top 15 super bantamweight positioning in three organizations will translate to the new division, but it seems that South African Ludumo “9mm” Lamati 21(11KO)-0-1 intends to fight at featherweight from now on. This new stage in his professional career began with a fourth-round knockout victory over the seasoned Filipino Mark Anthony “El Heneral” Geraldo 38(19KO)-12(3)-3, for whom the fight was too big in every sense.
Although Geraldo was also moving up from super bantamweight for this clash, the jump seemed too much for a boxer who once fought at super flyweight and flyweight. Thus, facing an opponent with a reach announced as 1.80m (71”) and with more speed, freshness and motivation, the southpaw Geraldo was uncomfortable from the start.
In the first round there were only soft jabs and some testing, but in the second Lamati began to throw his right hand in straight shot, hook and uppercut, hitting clearly Geraldo, who tried to perform some eventual lunges with hooks to the torso but with limited success. Finally, once Lamati’s tactical dominance had become more than firm, a straight right hand rocked Geraldo, who almost immediately fell to the canvas from what appeared to be a straight punch to the body (the angle offered by the camera did not allow to see the action clearly). The Filipino did not get up during the count, and so the clash ended.
While Lamati was bigger, the fact is that they were both super bantamweights moving up to featherweight and that Geraldo is normally remarkably tough. However, this time the Filipino suffered the fastest defeat of his career. So while Lamati isn’t a prospect that’s going to excite the average fan, he’s an undefeated boxer with certain qualities and who will possibly receive a good position in the featherweight rankings. So, beyond the possibility that some big foreign promoter could make him a good offer (in recent times we have seen South African boxers like Fuzile or Nontshinga in American rings), surely Lamati will be able to find interesting clashes at the national level with which to try to strengthen his international aspirations.
