El prospecto filipino del peso minimosca John Paul Gabunilas logró, sobre el papel, la mayor victoria de su carrera venciendo por decisión mayoritaria a su compatriota Jesse “Little Giant” Espinas, si bien el resultado fue controvertido, puesto que Espinas realmente mereció el triunfo. Miércoles 21 de diciembre
Tras su descenso desde el peso supermedio al medio, el estadounidense Anthony “The Magician” Sims Jr. sumó un claro triunfo por decisión unánime sobre un Antonio Todd que había tenido una buena temporada. Crónica y vídeo del combate siguiendo el link.

La revancha entre las excampeonas mundiales Marcela Eliana “La Tigresa” Acuña y Débora “La Gurisa” Dionicius se saldó nuevamente con una victoria unánime para la segunda, que capturó además el cinturón mundial WBO del peso supergallo. Crónica siguiendo el link.
Como parte de este mismo cartel, el peso wélter Fabián Andrés Maidana sólo necesitó tres rounds para deshacerse de Carlos Daniel Aquino, aunque la detención arbitral pareció precipitada. Crónica siguiendo el link.
La última velada italiana del año tuvo la coronación de un nuevo titular de Italia del peso medio, ya que el veterano Carlo De Novellis no pudo lidiar con el joven Giovanni “Nino” Rossetti, que tenía casi todas las ventajas posibles a su favor y que se hizo con un triunfo por KOT en el octavo asalto. Lunes 26 de diciembre
Como se podía esperar, la revancha entre Ryoichi Tamura 15(7KO)-7-1 y Gaku Furuhashi 29(16KO)-9(1)-2 fue un igualado choque en el que nuevamente Furuhashi obtuvo el triunfo, en esta ocasión por decisión dividida (doble 96-94 y un 95-96). De ese modo, Furuhashi se hizo con el vacante cinturón japonés del peso supergallo, título que ya poseyó y del que quizás pueda hacer varias defensas si elige los oponentes adecuados.
Aunque el peso medio Ramadan Hiseni 15(5KO)-1-1 pudo evitar la derrota ante Nizar Trimech con un empate, no pudo lograrlo ante Ismael Seck 10(4KO)-7-2 que, demostrando una vez más que es un púgil capaz, se impuso como visitante por decisión unánime y cartulinas de 78-72, 77-73 y 76-74. Así, Hiseni verá cuanto menos aplazados sus planes en el ámbito continental y Seck accederá a una pelea de cierta relevancia para su nivel en la que intentar prolongar su racha de cuatro victorias.
Jueves 29 de diciembre
Respecto al combate de desquite entre Vasil Ducar 13(10KO)-6(1)-1 y Vladimir Reznicek 11(5KO)-5(1)-2, el favorito Ducar cumplió los pronósticos y se hizo con una amplia victoria por decisión unánime (triple 100-90), reteniendo su corona nacional checa del peso crucero. De todos modos, esto sólo será una pequeña alegría en la carrera como jornalero de Ducar, que pronto será llamado otra vez para enfrentarse como visitante a un boxeador con aspiraciones internacionales que seguramente le derrotará.
El combate entre el olímpico chino Bin Lu 2(1KO)-1(1) y el tailandés Yutthana Kaensa 23(10KO)-4(3) se vio aplazado, siendo teóricamente su nueva fecha el día 11 de febrero.
Viernes 30 de diciembre
La peso ligero uruguaya Maira Moneo pasó satisfactoriamente su mayor test profesional venciendo por decisión unánime la eliminatoria WBA ante la exmonarca argentina Érica Farías. De ese modo, Moneo se convirtió en una de las aspirantes obligatorias de la titular indiscutida de la división Katie Taylor. Crónica siguiendo el link.
Esta velada ofreció también un choque por el cinto de Sudamérica del peso ligero en el que Agustín Quintana fue derribado y derrotado por KOT en el quinto asalto por un Juan Javier Carrasco que tuvo una buena actuación y que ahora encadena 11 triunfos. Crónica siguiendo el link.
En cuanto al duelo del peso superwélter entre Peter Dobson 16(9KO)-0 y Hassan Mwakinyo 20(14KO)-3(2), éste no se disputó.
Sábado 31 de diciembre
El año terminó con una polémica, puesto que a muchos no les convenció el resultado de empate de la unificación WBO-WBA del peso supermosca entre Kazuto Ioka y Joshua Franco. Viernes 6 de enero
También hubo controversia en el primer mundial de la temporada 2023, puesto que el prometedor japonés Ginjiro Shigeoka, pese a estar bien encaminado hacia la victoria en un campeonato IBF del peso mínimo, vio como la pelea terminaba en un No Contest por culpa del titular mexicano Daniel “Cejitas” Valladares, que aprovechó un choque de cabezas para huir de la pelea. En el otro mundial de la velada, el duro monarca WBO del peso mínimo Masataka Taniguchi 16(11KO)-4(1) padeció su primera derrota antes del límite perdiendo de forma inesperadamente rápida ante el nuevo campeón, el filipino Melvin Jerusalem 20(12KO)-2, que se impuso en el segundo asalto. En el respaldo de esta cartelera, el clasificado mundial del peso superpluma Yoshimitsu Kimura 14(9KO)-3(1)-1 sufrió una derrota por KO en el quinto asalto ante Masanori Rikiishi 13(8KO)-1(1), que ahora debería recibir un buen posicionamiento en las listas, mientras que el joven peso mosca Ayumu Hanada 9(7KO)-1-1 pasó con nota su test ante el pegador panameño Azael Villar 19(15KO)-2(2)-3 derrotándolo por KOT en el séptimo round.
Sábado 7 de enero
Después de unos primeros rounds intrincados, Gervonta “Tank” Davis impuso sus izquierdazos para derrotar en el noveno asalto a Héctor Luis “El Androide” García, al que muchos acusan de rendirse tras las primeras dificultades serias. En el choque coestelar el prometedor peso wélter estadounidense Jaron “Boots” Ennis tuvo quizás la actuación menos brillante de su carrera ante el ucraniano Karen Chukhadzhian, al que igualmente venció por amplia decisión unánime. Wednesday, December 21
After moving down from super middleweight to middleweight, American Anthony «The Magician» Sims Jr. achieved a clear unanimous decision win over Antonio Todd, who was having a good 2022 season. Article and video of the fight following the link.

The rematch between former world champions Marcela Eliana «La Tigresa» Acuña and Débora «La Gurisa» Dionicius again ended in a unanimous decision victory for the latter, who also captured the WBO world super bantamweight belt. Read more following the link.
As part of this same bill, welterweight Fabián Andrés Maidana only needed three rounds to get rid of Carlos Daniel Aquino, although the referee’s stoppage seemed a bit early. Read more following the link.
In the last Italian evening of the year there was a new national middleweight titleholder, as veteran Carlo De Novellis was unable to deal with young Giovanni «Nino» Rossetti, who had almost every possible advantage in his favor and who scored a TKO in the eighth round. As expected, the rematch between Ryoichi Tamura 15(7KO)-7-1 and Gaku Furuhashi 29(16KO)-9(1)-2 was an even match in which Furuhashi scored another win, this time by split decision (double 96-94 and one 95-96). With the victory, Furuhashi conquered the vacant Japanese super bantamweight belt, a title he already held and that he could be able to defend several times if he chooses the right opponents.
Although middleweight Ramadan Hiseni 15(5KO)-1-1 was able to avoid losing to Nizar Trimech with a draw, he was unable to do so against Ismael Seck 10(4KO)-7-2 who, proving once again that he is a capable fighter, scored a win by unanimous decision (78-72, 77-73 and 76-74) as a visitor. Thus, Hiseni will have to, at least, postpone his plans at the continental level and Seck will access to a fight of some relevance for his career in which he will try to extend his four-victory streak.

Regarding the rematch between Vasil Ducar 13(10KO)-6(1)-1 and Vladimir Reznicek 11(5KO)-5(1)-2, the favorite Ducar did as expected, scoring a wide unanimous decision victory (triple 100-90) with which he retained his Czech national cruiserweight crown. In any case, this will only be a small joy in Ducar’s career as journeyman, since he will soon be called again to face on the road a boxer with international aspirations who will surely defeat him.
The fight between Chinese Olympian Bin Lu 2(1KO)-1(1) and Thai Yutthana Kaensa 23(10KO)-4(3) was postponed. The new tentative date for the bout is February 11.
Friday, December 30
Uruguayan lightweight Maira Moneo successfully passed her biggest test as a professional winning by unanimous decision a WBA eliminator against Argentinian former champion Érica Farías. There was also controversy in the first world title fight of the 2023 season, since promising Japanese Ginjiro Shigeoka, despite being well on his way to victory in an IBF minimumweight championship, could not score a win due to Mexican titleholder Daniel «Cejitas» Valladares taking advantage of a head clash to flee from the fight. In the other world championship of the evening, the tough WBO minimumweight titlist Masataka Taniguchi 16(11KO)-4(1) suffered his first stoppage defeat losing unexpectedly quickly to the new champion, the Filipino Melvin Jerusalem 20(12KO)-2, who scored a second round TKO. On the undercard, world ranked super featherweight Yoshimitsu Kimura 14(9KO)-3(1)-1 suffered a fifth-round KO loss to Masanori Rikiishi 13(8KO)-1(1), who now should receive a good position in the lists, while young flyweight Ayumu Hanada 9(7KO)-1-1 passed with flying colors his test against the Panamanian puncher Azael Villar 19(15KO)-2(2)-3 defeating him by TKO in the seventh round.
Saturday, January 7
After losing several rounds, Gervonta “Tank” Davis imposed his left hand to defeat Héctor Luis “El Androide” García, whom many accuse of quitting after the first serious difficulties. In the co-main event, promising American welterweight Jaron “Boots” Ennis had perhaps the least brilliant performance of his career against Ukrainian Karen Chukhadzhian, whom he defeated by wide unanimous decision.
