Se sabía que el día 25 de febrero era la fecha tentativa para el campeonato mundial por el vacante cinturón IBF del peso superligero entre el puertorriqueño Subriel Matías y el argentino Jeremías Ponce, si bien posteriores reportes han aumentado todavía más el interés de esa proyectada velada de Premier Boxing Champions en The Armory en Minneapolis, Estados Unidos.
Según informó primero Dan Rafael, el combate estelar de esta cartelera podría ser la eliminatoria WBC del peso pluma, y duelo de revancha, entre el campeón unificado del peso supergallo Stephen Fulton y el excampeón de esa misma división Brandon Figueroa. Hay que recordar que Fulton y Figueroa ofrecieron uno de los mejores combates del año 2021 con una batalla absolutamente repleta de intercambios y con un ritmo frenético.
Por otro lado, Keith Idec señaló que la emisión de esta cartelera de Showtime se abrirá con una pelea del peso superligero entre Elvis Rodríguez y Joseph Adorno, que parece un duelo con mucho sentido y no poco interés.
Es necesario señalar que también se han producido algunos rumores que apuntan a otras posibilidades, como que, por supuesta baja de Fulton, el combate estelar finalmente podría ser entre Figueroa y el exmonarca Mark Magsayo. De todos modos, por el momento no hay suficientes fuentes fiables que apoyen esta última noticia y habrá que esperar un poco para ver si realmente es creíble.
En cualquier caso, incluso si finalmente el Fulton-Figueroa es sustituido por el Figueroa-Magsayo, esta velada con tres combates apuntaría a ser igualmente una de las citas más interesantes del calendario boxístico para el primer tercio de la temporada.
