La cartelera de Boxing Insider Promotions de la pasada noche terminó con la excampeona mundial estadounidense Heather “The Heat” Hardy 24(4KO)-2 sumando su segunda victoria consecutiva y dando un paso más hacia recuperar un buen posicionamiento en las listas mundiales tras derrotas ante Amanda Serrano y Jessica Camara. Con todo, Hardy tuvo otra dura pelea más en su carrera ante la mucho menos experimentada brasileña Taynna Cardoso 5(1KO)-2, que ofreció una pugna muy igualada en la que perfectamente se le podría haber dado la victoria o el empate.
De hecho, uno de los jueces puntuó el combate como 76-76, pero los otros dos dieron cartulinas de 77-75 y ridículo 78-74 para el triunfo por decisión mayoritaria de Hardy.
Como siempre, Hardy avanzó frontal lanzando golpes abierta (y con considerable tosquedad) contra Cardoso, que encontró huecos enormes para contragolpear con sus cruzados, ganchos y uppercuts. Así, la brasileña impactó las manos más nítidas, si bien Hardy siempre se mantuvo cerca de ella y tiró un número de golpes mucho mayor, lo que en ocasiones terminó decantando de su lado los asaltos. En cualquier caso, en los intercambios constantes que se produjeron, Hardy a menudo se llevó la peor parte, recibiendo duros puños en la cabeza que generalmente ni siquiera intentaba bloquear y que enrojecieron su rostro.
Dado que Hardy no paraba de tirar puños y Cardoso no tenía una cadencia de golpes tan alta, y en ocasiones pareció estar lidiando con problemas de cansancio, la pelea se mantuvo contendida e igualada. Además, como en el tramo final Cardoso tuvo que recurrir más al clinch, quizás esto la perjudicó a ojos de los jueces, especialmente peleando como visitante. Aun así, lo cierto es que los golpes de la brasileña siguieron siendo los mejor ejecutados y más explosivos y Hardy tuvo que aplicarse muy a fondo para intentar igualar su trabajo, algo que no siempre logró.
En una era en la que los promotores prestan más atención que nunca al pugilismo femenino e incluyen combates femeninos en muchísimas carteleras principales pero en la que sigue sin haber un gran número de boxeadoras, parece inevitable que una excampeona mundial con experiencia como Hardy reciba una nueva gran oportunidad en el futuro próximo. Aun así, como ya se ha podido ver en su carrera, su mezcla de falta de pegada y de total despreocupación defensiva son una muy mala combinación de cara a duelos ante rivales con nivel alto, en los que no es ni mucho menos suficiente tener tenacidad, insistencia y encaje.
Erdenebat sumó KOT
Entre los duelos del respaldo se produjó la quinta pugna profesional del olímpico mongol Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 5(3KO)-0, que ganó por KOT en el tercer round su choque del peso pluma contra el nicaragüense Giovanni Gutiérrez 11(6KO)-4(3)-1.
El zurdo Erdenebat salió decidido a lograr un knockout, y en el primer round ya pareció dañar un tanto a su rival con un cruzado diestro seguido de un gancho de izquierda. Gutiérrez, que fue llevado a las cuerdas a menudo, tiró curvos a la desesperada intentando hacerse respetar, pero las combinaciones de golpes de poder del fuerte olímpico amenazaron constantemente con dañarlo. Por ello, no fue sorprendente que en el final del segundo round un directo estremeciese un tanto a Gutiérrez y que en el tercer asalto, tras padecer una hemorragia nasal, fuese golpeado en las cuerdas por cruzados y ganchos hasta que su esquina tiró la toalla.

Last night’s Boxing Insider Promotions card ended with former American world champion Heather “The Heat” Hardy 24(4KO)-2 obtained her second straight victory and took another step towards regaining a good position on the world rankings after losses to Amanda Serrano and Jessica Camara. Still, Hardy had yet another tough fight in her career against the much less experienced Brazilian Taynna Cardoso 5(1KO)-2, who delivered a very even bout in which she perfectly could have scored a win or a draw.
In fact, one of the judges’ card was 76-76, but the other two gave cards of 77-75 and a ridiculous 78-74 for Hardy’s majority decision victory.
As always, Hardy moved forward frontal and threw punches open (and with considerable crudeness) against Cardoso, who found huge openings to counter with hooks and uppercuts. Thus, the Brazilian landed the sharpest hands, although Hardy always stayed close to her and threw a much greater number of punches, which sometimes allowed her to win the rounds. In any case, in the constant exchanges, Hardy often got the brunt of it, taking hard punches to the head that she usually didn’t even try to defend and that reddened her face.
With Hardy punching non-stop and Cardoso not having as high a work rate, and at times dealing with fatigue issues, the fight remained close and contested. In addition, since Cardoso had to resort more to the clinch in the final stretch, perhaps this helped her opponent to impress more the judges, especially fighting as a local. Even so, the truth is that the Brazilian continued to connect punches with way better technique and with more explosiveness, so Hardy had to apply herself very thoroughly to try to match her work, something that she did not always achieve.
In an era where promoters pay more attention than ever to women’s boxing, and include women’s bouts on so many main cards, but still there aren’t many female boxers, it seems inevitable that an experienced former world champion like Hardy will receive a new big opportunity in the near future. Even so, as has already been seen in her career, her mix of lack of punch and total defensive unconcern are a very bad combination for clashes against high-level opponents, in which having tenacity, insistence and chin is far from enough.
Erdenebat won by TKO
Among the duels of the support there was the fifth professional fight of Mongolian Olympian Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 5(3KO)-0, who won his featherweight fight against the Nicaraguan Giovanni Gutiérrez 11(6KO)-4(3)-1 by third-round TKO.
The southpaw Erdenebat was determined to score a knockout, and in the first round he already seemed to hurt his opponent a bit with a right hook followed by a left hook. Gutierrez, who was taken to the ropes often, threw desperate hooks trying to resist, but the combinations of power shots from the strong Olympian constantly threatened to damage him. Therefore, it was not surprising that at the end of the second round a straight hand shook Gutiérrez somewhat and that in the third round, after suffering a nosebleed, he was hit on the ropes by a barrage of hooks until his corner threw in the towel.
