La derrota que padeció ante Samuel Bustos en 2020 fue un cierto revés para el estadounidense Louie López 13(4KO)-2-1, pero con cinco triunfos consecutivos (dos de ellos sobre invictos), había recuperado el rumbo. Con todo, la pasada noche se topó con el zurdo mexicano Ángel Beltrán Villa 16(9KO)-1(1), que le derribó en el primer round y le derrotó contra pronóstico por merecida decisión unánime. Las puntuaciones fueron 77-74, 78-73, 78-73.
Tras conectar varios golpes de poder entre entradas y salidas, Beltrán se anotó un knockdown con un gancho zurdo al rostro en corta ante un descuidado López. No hubo mucho tiempo para más en el primer round, así que las acciones llegaron al segundo, en el que López ya estaba más recuperado. Sin embargo, el favorito siguió sin poder lidiar con el ritmo y la fortaleza de Beltrán, que se mantenía frente a él encajando sus directos sin dificultad y atacando con más contundencia con sus golpes curvos arriba y abajo.
Habiéndose mantenido así la situación durante varios asaltos y sumándose a ello el knockdown, López estaba en una posición crítica en las tarjetas en un combate pactado a ocho asaltos. Pero aun así no encontró la forma de ajustar para cambiar la tónica del enfrentamiento, en el que siguió intentando mantener a raya a su adversario sin los resultados necesarios. De hecho, López sólo empezó a tener más éxitos cuando Beltrán erróneamente le cedió la iniciativa o se mantuvo en la distancia larga sin presionar, puesto que cuando el visitante atacaba con sus combinaciones era claramente superior.
De todos modos, aunque López pudo usar su jab, sus golpes rectos y alguna corta combinación para capturar asaltos en el último tramo intentando remontar, esto no fue suficiente para darle la vuelta al duelo y Beltrán salió del ring con el brazo en alto.
A pesar de que perdió eficacia en la segunda mitad, en general fue una buena y meritoria actuación para Beltrán que, habiéndose anotado dos victorias en sus dos visitas a Estados Unidos, debería recibir ahora alguna buena oportunidad. Con todo, si esta le llega en un gran paso adelante no podrá permitirse apartar el pie del acelerador y deberá buscar la manera de ser mucho más consistente a lo largo de la pugna en cuanto a su desempeño ofensivo.

The defeat he suffered against Samuel Bustos in 2020 was a setback for the American Louie López 13(4KO)-2-1, but with five consecutive wins (two of them over undefeated fighters), he had recovered his course. Still, last night he ran into Mexican southpaw Ángel Beltrán Villa 16(9KO)-1(1), who knocked him down in the first round and beat him in an upset. The final result was a unanimous decision (77-74, 78-73, 78-73).
After landing several power shots going in and out, Beltrán scored a knockdown with a left hook to the face at short range in an oversight by López. There was not much time for more in the first round, so the actions reached the second, in which López was somewhat recovered. However, the favorite continued to be unable to deal with Beltrán’s rhythm and strength, and the visitor remained in front of him, resisting well the straight hands received and attacking more forcefully with his hooks upstairs and downstairs.
With the situation going on like this for several rounds, and adding to it the knockdown, López was in a critical position on the scorecards in a scheduled eight-round bout. But even so, he did not find a way to adjust to change the trend of the fight, in which he tried to keep his opponent at bay without obtaining the necessary results. In fact, López only began to have more success when Beltrán mistakenly gave him the initiative or stayed in the long distance without pressing, since when the visitor attacked with his combinations he was clearly superior.
In any case, although López was able to use his jab, his straight hands and some short combinations to capture rounds in the last stretch trying to come back, this was not enough to turn the clash around and Beltrán left the ring with his hand raised.
Although he lost efficiency in the second half, overall it was a good and commendable performance for Beltrán who, having scored two victories in his two visits to the United States, should now receive some good opportunities. However, if he were to face a big step up next he would have to avoid taking his foot off the accelerator, and he would have to find a way to be much more consistent throughout the fight in terms of his offensive performance.
