“Zurdo” vs. Rosado cancelado por gran exceso de peso. Otro conveniente abaratamiento en un evento de DAZN

El mexicano Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez estaba demasiado por encima del peso semipesado [79,4 kg o 175 lb] como para llegar a subirse a la báscula en el pesaje oficial. Y es que según se informa, inicialmente en un pesaje privado Ramírez pesó 84,8 kg (187 lb). Por ello, aunque posteriormente se dice que supuestamente bajó hasta 82,8 kg (182,6 kg), su enfrentamiento ante Gabriel Rosado, que marcó 78,5 kg (173 lb), terminó siendo cancelado.
Más allá de la supuesta bajada de peso que se dice que Ramírez hizo (es muy cuestionable que sea verdad, ya que parece inverosímil que siquiera intentara bajar un exceso de 5 kg un rato antes del pesaje), el hecho es que su fallo es demasiado grande como para que no parezca deliberado.
Es cierto que Ramírez, al igual que tantos otros boxeadores, es simplemente lo que se llama un “weight bully” (abusón por peso) que ha militado en el peso supermedio y semipesado a pesar de que tiene el tamaño de un peso crucero. Con todo, aunque este tipo de boxeadores a veces termina fallando en la báscula (o pagando en el ring el precio de su deshidratación), rara vez se encuentran casos en los que un excampeón mundial con aspiraciones esté tan lejos del techo de la categoría en la que milita en el día del pesaje. Así, y siendo Rosado un rival escogido como víctima propiciatoria, lo lógico es preguntarse qué razón puede haber detrás de este “fallo”.
En cualquier caso, lo que es un hecho es que la velada de Golden Boy Promotions de esta noche, si ya era barata antes, ahora que se ha cancelado el Ramírez-Rosado todavía lo será más, lo que encaja a la perfección con la estrategia actual de DAZN: gastar poco y pedir mucho de los fans. En este sentido, ya son demasiadas las convenientes y sospechosas cancelaciones que se están produciendo en eventos de DAZN (Matchroom y Golden Boy), lo que parece seguir un plan trazado.
¿Cuál es el consuelo que les queda a los suscriptores fieles de DAZN más allá de esperar a los eventuales carteles significativos? Según los directivos de la compañía, se está preparando un aumento de inversión en los combates de youtubers… Es decir, el dinero que se ahorra en peleas profesionales parece que se piensa situar apoyando mamarrachadas, o sea que se equivocaban los que señalaban que los “combates de celebridades” no tenían ningún efecto negativo sobre el boxeo.
DAZN entró en el mundo del pugilismo afirmando que iba a cambiar el boxeo, si bien es verdad que nunca dijo que lo fuese a cambiar para bien…

According to reports, initially in a private weigh-in Ramírez weighed 84.8 kg (187 lb). Beyond the alleged weight loss that Ramírez is said to have tried to do (it is highly questionable that this is true, since it seems implausible that he did even try to lose an excess of 5 kg (12 lb) a while before a weigh-in), the fact is that his fail is too big for it not to look deliberate.
It’s true that Ramirez, like so many other boxers, is simply a weight bully who has fought at super middleweight and light heavyweight despite having the size of a cruiserweight. Still, while these kind of boxers sometimes end up failing on the scales (or paying the price for their dehydration in the ring), its rare to find cases where a former world champion with aspirations is so far from the division limit on the day of the weigh-in. Thus, and since Rosado was an opponent chosen as a victim, it is logical to wonder what reason there may be behind this “fail”.
In any case, the fact is that tonight’s Golden Boy Promotions evening, which was already cheap, now that the Ramírez-Rosado bout has been canceled it will be even cheaper, which fits perfectly with DAZN current strategy: spend little and ask a lot from the fans. In this sense, there are already too many convenient and suspicious cancellations that are taking place at DAZN events (Matchroom and Golden Boy), so it seems that they are following a plan.
What can expect the loyal DAZN subscribers beyond waiting for the eventual significant evenings? According to company’s executives, an increase in investment is being prepared in youtuber’s fights… That is to say, the money that is saved in professional bouts could go to support stupid shows, so those who pointed out that the “celebrity matches” had no negative effect on boxing were wrong.
