Después de que ambos lograsen victorias sobre púgiles invictos en sus debuts en Estados Unidos, el canadiense-guineano Mohamed “El Búfalo Negro” Soumaoro 13(6KO)-1 y el mexicano Ángel “El Chocolatito” Vázquez 12(6KO)-1(1) se enfrentaron en el combate estelar de un evento de ProBox intentando afianzar el buen momento en sus carreras. Este objetivo sólo fue culminado por Soumaoro, que hizo valer su explosividad, habilidad y astucia para ser muy superior e imponerse en el octavo asalto.
Vázquez intentó imponer sus ofensivas en el comienzo, pero se encontró con sólida réplica de Soumaoro, que le alcanzó con buenos uppercuts y ganchos y le hizo retroceder. De todos modos, el mexicano no tardó en intentar volver al ataque con sus series de curvos, produciéndose algunos buenos intercambios. En un cierto momento pareció que la cadencia de Vázquez podía ser un factor importante, pero entonces los precisos uppercuts diestros de Soumaoro conectaron de lleno y continuaron marcando la diferencia a favor de este último.
De hecho para el cuarto round Vázquez quedó tocado por los explosivos golpes de poder curvos de su contrincante. Pese a estas dificultades, Vázquez siguió intentando mantenerse en la pugna ya fuese atacando, agarrándose o buscando contragolpear, pero “El Búfalo Negro” le siguió alcanzando con potentes y certeros puños que fueron los más significativos y que, más allá de darle los asaltos, continuaron desgastando a su adversario.
La pugna llegó a un punto en el que empezaba a ser necesario que se parase, siendo inviable que Vázquez pudiese lograr el triunfo, pero el castigo de Soumaoro continuó hasta que en el octavo asalto finalmente la esquina del “Chocolatito” hizo lo correcto y paró el combate para ahorrar más golpes innecesarios a su púgil.
Esta fue una muy buena actuación de Soumaoro, que fue contundente y eficaz sin precipitarse ni perder el orden ante un boxeador combativo e imbatido. Por ello, y siendo su única derrota un tropiezo por la mínima como visitante, Soumaoro parece tener potencial para lograr éxitos destacables en las próximas temporadas, si bien su escasa experiencia de calidad y su tardío debut profesional son elementos que pueden jugar en su contra. En cualquier caso, lo que es casi seguro es que a corto-medio plazo le veremos afrontando una prueba de fuego y un paso adelante ante un boxeador con notables aspiraciones.

After both boxers scored victories over unbeaten fighters in their debuts on the United States, Canadian-Guinean Mohamed “El Búfalo Negro” Soumaoro 13(6KO)-1 and Mexican Ángel “El Chocolatito” Vázquez 12(6KO)-1(1) faced each other in the main bout of a ProBox event trying to consolidate the good moment in their careers. This objective was only achieved by Soumaoro, who imposed his explosiveness, skill and cunning to be clearly superior and win in the eighth round.
Vázquez tried to attack early on, but was met with solid response from Soumaoro, who hit him with good uppercuts and hooks and made him step back. In any case, it didn’t take long for the Mexican to try to return to the attack with his series of hooks, producing some good exchanges. At one point it looked like Vázquez’s punch output could be an important factor, but then Soumaoro’s precise right uppercuts connected squarely and continued to be decisive in the latter’s control of the rounds.
In fact, in the fourth round, Vázquez was hurt by the explosive power punches of his opponent. Despite these difficulties, Vázquez kept trying to stay in the fight whether attacking, holding or seeking to counterattack, but «El Búfalo Negro» continued to hit him with powerful and accurate shots that were the most significant and that, beyond allowing him to win the rounds, continued to wear down his opponent.
The fight reached a point where it was necessary to stop it, as it was unfeasible for Vázquez to win, but Soumaoro’s punishment continued until, in the eighth round, Chocolatito’s corner finally did the right thing and saved their boxer from more unnecessary blows.
This was a very good performance by Soumaoro, who was forceful and effective without rushing or losing order against a combative and unbeaten fighter. For this reason, and his only defeat being a narrow loss as a visitor, Soumaoro seems to have the potential to achieve successes in the coming seasons, although his little quality experience and his late professional debut are elements that can work against him. In any case, what is almost certain is that in the short-medium term we will see him facing a decisive test and a step up against a boxer with notable aspirations.
