El doble oro olímpico cubano Robeisy Ramírez 12(7KO)-1 tuvo que esperar más de lo que inicialmente se previó cuando anunció su debut profesional, pero tres años y medio después de su fallida primera pugna alcanzó un campeonato mundial en el que no falló. De hecho, como se podía esperar, Ramírez fue muy superior al exmonarca mundial ghanés Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe 24(15KO)-3(1) a quien derrotó por amplia decisión unánime para coronarse. Las cartulinas fueron justas: 119-108, 118-109, 117-110.
Dado que Dogboe dejó, o no supo impedir, que la pelea se desarrollase táctica y en la distancia larga, selló su destino ante el zurdo Ramírez, que con espacios hizo valer su superioridad en destreza, dimensiones, inteligencia de ring, etc. para escoger los momentos adecuados para impactar su izquierda recta, manejar el jab y contragolpear con uppercuts y hooks. Además, tan pronto como en el segundo asalto “El Tren” dio muestra de su aumentada pegada y puso en ciertos apuros a Dogboe con izquierdazos, obligándole a agarrarse. Todo ello sin poder olvidar que Ramírez, una vez más, controló bien los espacios y estuvo eficaz en defensa con variadas acciones elusivas.
Ocasionalmente pero con cierta regularidad Dogboe, cansado de ser controlado desde la distancia larga, intentó arremeter y hacer valer su explosividad a través de hooks. Pero Ramírez bloqueó o esquivó sus ataques antes de volver a imponer sus directos o le contestó en corta con notable tesón, de modo que si la ventana para el triunfo de “Royal Storm” era ya muy pequeña antes del combate, durante el transcurso del mismo se hizo prácticamente inexistente. Sin embargo, esto no evitó que Dogboe continuase esforzándose todo lo que pudo, lanzando ofensivas cada vez más numerosas pero no por ello más eficaces.
Así, aunque Dogboe capturó algún round e hizo que otros fuesen igualados, por lo general en cada asalto Ramírez era el que conectaba los golpes más claros, precisos y significativos con bastante diferencia, especialmente una vez que, pasada la mitad, el no favorito pareció perder un tanto la fe en la victoria y redujo su actividad. En cualquier caso, si bien Dogboe en los rounds de campeonato volvió a incrementar su ritmo y sus ataques, su eficacia volvió a ser escasa por los bloqueos, esquivas y contras de Ramírez, que certificó su triunfo con un knockdown en el duodécimo round con un uppercut zurdo a la contra mientras su rival pisaba su pie adelantado.
Según CompuBox, Ramírez impactó el 45% de sus golpes de poder y conectó más puños en total (160 a 113).
La división del peso pluma ofrece a Ramírez una unificación perfectamente viable en el futuro próximo, ya que es compañero de escuadra tanto del campeón IBF Luis Alberto López como de su retador Michael Conlan, quienes pelearán el día 27 de mayo. El propio Ramírez es consciente de ello y tras el combate mencionó a estos púgiles como rivales a los que quiere medirse, si bien no descartó ninguna otra posibilidad e incluso dio por buena una defensa voluntaria ante otro compañero de Top Rank como el dos veces retador mundial Joet González.
Hablando precisamente de González 25(15KO)-4, éste conservó y seguramente mejoró su posición en los rankings WBA, WBC y WBO venciendo una guerra ante el mexicano Enrique “El Ejecutor” Vivas 22(11KO)-3. Los púgiles intercambiaron sin cuartel durante diez asaltos, si bien la precisión, la defensa y los mayores recursos de González marcaron la diferencia a su favor a ojos de los jueces, que le dieron una decisión unánime con puntuaciones de 99-91, 98-92 y 98-92.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramírez 12(7KO)-1 had to wait longer than initially anticipated when he announced his professional debut, but three and a half years after his failed first fight he reached a world championship in which he did not miss. In fact, as could be expected, Ramírez was far superior to Ghanaian former world champion Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe 24(15KO)-3(1), whom he defeated by wide unanimous decision to conquer the crown. The cards were fair: 119-108, 118-109, 117-110.
Given that Dogboe allowed, or did not know how to prevent, the fight from becoming a long distance tactical duel, he sealed his fate against the southpaw Ramírez, who with spaces imposed his superiority in skill, size, ring intelligence, etc. to pick the right moments to land his straight left, establish the jab, and counter with uppercuts and hooks. In addition, as soon as in the second round, «El Tren» showed his increased punching power and put Dogboe in some trouble with left punches, forcing his opponents to hold. To all this was added that Ramírez, once again, controlled the distance well and was effective in defense with varied elusive actions.
Occasionally but regularly Dogboe, tired of being dominated at long range, tried to lunge and bring out his explosiveness through hooks. But Ramírez blocked or dodged his attacks before imposing again his straight shots or answered him at close distance with remarkable tenacity. So if the window for Dogboe’s victory was already very small before the fight, during the course of it his chances became practically non-existent. However, this did not stop “Royal Storm” from continuing to do all he could, launching increasingly numerous but not more effective offensives.
Thus, although Dogboe captured a few rounds and made others close, in general Ramírez was by far the boxer who connected the clearest, most precise and most significant blows, especially once, after the half point, the underdog seemed to lose faith in victory somewhat and reduced his activity. In any case, although Dogboe attacked more in the championship rounds, his effectiveness was once again limited by the blocks, dodges and counters of Ramírez, who scored a knockdown in the twelfth round with a counter left uppercut while his opponent stepped on his lead foot.

The featherweight division offers Ramírez a perfectly viable unification in the near future, as he is a squadmate of both IBF champion Luis Alberto López and his challenger Michael Conlan, who will fight on May 27.
