Era casi imposible que la pelea llegase a la última campana enfrentándose dos pegadores con limitado encaje como los peso wélter japoneses Jin Sasaki 15(14KO)-1(1)-1 y Keita Obara 26(23KO)-5(4)-1, así que no resultó para nada sorprendente que el primero, tras ser derribado, lograse el triunfo por KOT en el tercer round.
Sasaki salió muy agresivo, sacando largos jabs acompañados de cruzados diestros y ganchos zurdos, pero Obara caminó para reducir los éxitos de su contrincante y lo derribó en el segundo round con un derechazo a la contra. De todos modos, en ese mismo asalto los golpes de poder de Sasaki dejaron tocado a su oponente, que fue golpeado por un uppercut tras la campana. Ya en el tercer episodio, Obara fue derribado por un gancho al hígado, y en la reanudación fue golpeado hasta que un brutal directo diestro lo dejó tendido aparatosamente en la lona sin posibilidad de continuar.
Dado que ambos eran rivales directos en el ranking WBO, este triunfo debería posicionar muy bien a Sasaki, si bien en una división tan difícil como el peso wélter tendrá muy complicado lograr grandes éxitos en el top, especialmente necesitando salir de su país para encontrar oponentes de nivel alto.
Kiko fue dominado por Abe
El español Kiko “La Sensación” Martínez 44(31KO)-12(5)-2 una vez más dio muestras de su pegada y peligro en los primeros compases de su combate ante el japonés Reiya Abe 25(10KO)-3-1. Sin embargo, a diferencia de Galahad y Gill, Abe encajó con enorme tenacidad, se mantuvo constante sobre un excelente boxeo técnico, cometió pocos erroes graves y dio un recital, apalizando al excampeón mundial antes de derrotarlo por decisión unánime (119-109, 119-109, 117-111).
El zurdo Abe se movía ágil por el ring esquivando y jabendo antes de buscar alguna eventual izquierda recta, pero los aislados golpes de poder de Martínez fueron muchísimo más contundentes en el inicio, poniendo en apuros con un uppercut zurdo al local en el segundo round. De todos modos, el japonés estaba muy motivado, resistió bien los puños recibidos y en el tercer round sacudió a su rival con un buen izquierdazo. “La Sensación” seguía avanzando tratando de impactar sus manos, pero estaba cortado, su cara se había ensangrentado y Abe aprovechó la ocasión para sacar buenos uno-dos, combinaciones uppercut-directo y precisas contras entre fluidas acciones defensivas, de modo que el nipón tuvo entonces grandes momentos y alcanzó un punto de inflexión.
Esto aumentó la confianza de Abe, que brilló dando muestras de su calidad técnica con veloces y largas series de golpes entre ágiles resposicionamientos ante un Martínez que avanzaba con firmeza pero que se paraba muchísimos golpes con la cara. Así, en el sexto round Martínez fue dañado por un uppercut zurdo a la contra de Abe, que continuó dando un recital golpeando y saliéndose de la distancia o cambiando la línea de ataque. El visitante estaba frustrado y asestó un ilegal puño después de la campana del séptimo asalto que dañó a Abe, quien también tenía un serio corte en su párpado derecho. Pero el local no se dejó sacar de su gran boxeo, sino que lidió con los inconvenientes y continuó asestando muchas manos y dominando a su rival con su maestría técnico-táctica.
Con este triunfo, Abe se convierte en aspirante obligatorio del campeón mundial IBF del peso pluma que saldrá del duelo entre “Venado” López y Michael Conlan el día 27 de mayo.

It was almost impossible for the fight to reach the last bell, as in it the contenders were two punchers with limited chin like the Japanese welterweights Jin Sasaki 15(14KO)-1(1)-1 and Keita Obara 26(23KO)-5(4)-1. So it was not at all shocking that the former, after being knocked down, achieved the victory by third round TKO.
Sasaki came out very aggressive, unleashing long jabs accompanied by right overhands and left hooks, but Obara walked to reduce the effect of his opponent’s shots and dropped him in the second round with a counter right hand. However, in that same round Sasaki’s power shots hurt Obara, who was hit by a hard uppercut after the bell. In the third episode, Obara was knocked down by a hook to the liver, and after the restart he was punished until a brutal right hand spectacularly knocked him out cold.
Given that both were direct rivals in the WBO ranking, this victory should position Sasaki very well, although in a division as difficult as welterweight it will be very hard for him to achieve great success at the top, especially having to leave his country to find high level opposition.
Kiko was dominated by Abe

The southpaw Abe moved agilely around the ring dodging and jabbing before throwing eventual straight lefts, but Martinez’s sporadic power shots were far more forceful early on, putting the local in trouble with a left uppercut in the second round. In any case, the Japanese was very motivated, resisted the punches very well and in the third round rocked his opponent with a good left hand. «La Sensación» kept moving forward trying to land his hands, but he was cut, his face was bloody and Abe took advantage of the opportunity to connect good one-twos, uppercut-straight hand combinations and great counters between fluid dodges. So the Japanese had a lot of success and reached a turning point.
Abe’s confidence increased and he shone, showing his technical level with fast and long series of shots between agile movements against Martínez, who charged constantly but blocked many blows with his face. Thus, in the sixth round, Martínez was hurt by a left uppercut by Abe, who continued to put on a show striking and getting out of range or changing the line of attack. The visitor was frustrated and landed an illegal punch after the seventh round bell that hurt Abe, who also had a cut on his right eyelid. But the local fighter did not lose focus, but rather dealt with the difficulties and continued to connect a lot of punches and dominate his opponent with his technical-tactical mastery.
With this victory, Abe becomes IBF mandatory challenger for the featherweight world champion who will come out of the duel between “Venado” López and Michael Conlan on May 27.
