En su mejor momento, el estadounidense Luis Collazo 39(20KO)-9(3) era mucho mejor de lo que actualmente es el mexicano Ángel “Relámpago” Ruiz 18(13KO)-2(1)-1. Sin embargo, el problema es que Collazo dejó atrás su pico de rendimiento hace unos quince años. Por ello, no era de esperar que, tras buscar una salida de su combate contra Stanionis y tras una inactividad de más de un año y medio, un Collazo muy deteriorado pudiese vencer a un boxeador 16 años más joven, más grande y más potente. Efectivamente, Ruiz derribó tres veces a su oponente y se hizo con un knockout en el sexto round.
En el duelo de zurdos Ruiz no tardó en dejar tocado con un jab a Collazo, que seguidamente fue atacado por andanadas y cayó hacia atrás, siendo aguantado por las cuerdas, aunque el árbitro no hizo cuenta. Collazo pasó unos instantes complicados, pero se rehizo e intentó volver a presionar a un Ruiz previsible y con escasa profundidad táctica y al que en el segundo asalto golpeó con nítidas manos. El favorito intentó abrir el ring desplazándose, pero no podía evitar quedar encerrado ante las voluntariosas series de un Collazo en las últimas de su carrera.
En cualquier caso, en los intercambios que se produjeron el púgil más grande y fresco tenía ventaja, más aún considerando que un jab había dejado tocado a Collazo en el primer asalto. Así, en el tercer episodio Collazo pareció algo cansado y tuvo un descuido, recibiendo un uno-dos que le dañó antes de que una izquierda lo tumbase. Posteriormente el árbitro hizo a destiempo la cuenta que debería haber hecho en el primer asalto: en el segundo knockdown que decretó las cuerdas aguantaron al boxeador, pero tras un empujón.
Collazo llegó al cuarto round, pero en éste fue estremecido por nuevos golpes de poder (y aguantado por las cuerdas sin cuenta esta vez) y resultó evidente que el combate se tenía que parar. De todos modos, Ruiz es tan limitado y tiene tantas brechas que un Collazo acabado, desgastado y dañado pudo armar una contraofensiva en el quinto asalto y llegar con alguna buena combinación. No obstante, esto sólo fue un espejismo, puesto que en el sexto asalto un gancho diestro al hígado hizo que Collazo permaneciese de rodillas durante la cuenta completa.
Una vez terminado el combate, Collazo confirmó lo que debería haber confirmado hace muchos años, es decir que se retira del boxeo profesional, quedando en el recuerdo de los aficionados sus combates ante Ricky Hatton y Andre Berto, entre otros. Por su parte, Ruiz tomaba aire, logrando su primer triunfo en dos años, pero tiene demasiados puntos débiles como para imaginárselo logrando triunfos de gran calibre ante rivales con buen nivel y en gran estado de forma. En este sentido, hay que recordar además que su victoria ante Collazo estuvo precedida por un empate ante el jornalero Jesús Piña, una amplísima derrota ante Giovanni Santillán, un cuestionable triunfo ante Bobirzhan Mominov y una derrota por knockout ante Javier Flores-Benejan.

In his prime, American Luis Collazo 39(20KO)-9(3) was much better than Mexican Ángel “Relámpago” Ruiz 18(13KO)-2(1)-1 currently is. The problem, however, is that Collazo left his peak behind him about fifteen years ago. Therefore, it was not expected that, after looking for a way out of his fight against Stanionis and after an inactivity of more than a year and a half, a very faded Collazo could beat a boxer 16 years younger, bigger and more powerful. Indeed, Ruiz dropped his opponent three times and knocked him out in the sixth round.
In a clash of southpaws, Ruiz soon hurt Collazo with a jab and then attacked him with barrages. Collazo fell backwards, and was held by the ropes, although the referee did not count. Collazo had a hard time, but he recovered and tried to put pressure on Ruiz, a predictable boxer with little tactical depth whom he hit with clear hands in the second round. The favorite tried to respond to these offensives by moving more, but he could not avoid being pinned on the ropes by the combinations of a boxer in the last moments of his career.
In any case, in the exchanges that took place the bigger and fresher fighter had the advantage, even more considering that a jab had damaged Collazo in the first round. Thus, in the third episode Collazo seemed somewhat tired and, in an oversight, he received a one-two that hurt him before a straight left knocked him down. A bit later, the referee made, at the wrong time, the count that he should have done in the first round: in what he ruled as the second knockdown, the ropes held Collazo, but after a push.
Collazo made it to the fourth round, but he was rocked by more power shots (and held by the ropes again, this time without a count) and it became clear that the fight had to be stopped. Still, Ruiz is so limited and has so many flaws that a worn down and damaged Collazo was able to throw a counterattack in the fifth-round and land some good combination. However, this was only a mirage, since in the sixth round a right hook to the liver put Collazo on his knees for the full count.
Once the fight was over, Collazo confirmed what he should have confirmed many years ago, that is, that he is retiring from professional boxing, thus ending a career in which highlighted his fights against Ricky Hatton and Andre Berto, among others. For his part, Ruiz achieved his first victory in two years, but he has too many weak points to imagine him achieving high-caliber victories against opponents with a good level and in great shape. In this sense, it must also be remembered that his victory against Collazo was preceded by a draw against journeyman Jesús Piña, a wide defeat against Giovanni Santillán, a questionable victory over Bobirzhan Mominov and a knockout defeat against Javier Flores-Benejan.
