La cancelación del enfrentamiento Fernando Ángel Molina vs. Kevin Piedrahita hizo que la velada de ProBox TV de la pasada noche fuese encabezada por un nuevo combate para el jovencísimo prospecto estadounidense Jonathan “La Roca” López 11(8KO)-0, que logró su sexto triunfo antes del límite consecutivo derrotando en el tercer asalto al mexicano Osvaldo “Perro” Núñez 5(0KO)-5(4).
El zurdo López fue demasiado veloz para su contrincante, sorprendiéndolo con largas izquierdas tras las cuales daba inmediatamente un paso atrás. Núñez le estaba dejando demasiado espacio para trabajar a un boxeador táctico, pero también es cierto que cuando eventualmente arrojó una ofensiva erró sus manos por los pasos atrás de López y recibió directos a la contra. Además, en el segundo round Núñez padeció una cuenta al tocar la lona con el guante tras un cruzado diestro a la cabeza.
En el tercer episodio, un serio corte padecido por Núñez en su ojo izquierdo, hizo que el árbitro llevase al púgil con el médico, que le dio el visto bueno para seguir. Sin embargo, unos segundos más tarde el tercer hombre decidió parar el combate, puesto que el corte era bastante serio y sangraba considerablemente. Entonces llegó la duda siempre presente en este tipo de situaciones:¿qué había causado el corte, un puño, un cabezazo o un codazo? Según la realización pudo haber sido causado por un gancho zurdo parte de una combinación, siendo efectivamente el resultado final decretado un triunfo por KOT para López, aunque realmente no se puede tener absoluta certeza sobre cómo sucedió la brecha, como en tantas otras ocasiones.
En cualquier caso, y más allá de especular qué podría haber pasado si no hubiese habido corte, sí es cierto que López (de 19 años) estaba siendo manifiestamente superior antes del final y que demostró cualidades evidentes que podrían llevarle a ser un peso superpluma destacado si es desarrollado de la manera adecuada y se mantiene disciplinado en su entrenamiento.

The cancellation of the Fernando Ángel Molina vs. Kevin Piedrahita fight made that last night’s ProBox TV evening ended up being headlined by a new bout for the very young American prospect Jonathan «La Roca» López 11(8KO)-0, who achieved his sixth consecutive stoppage win defeating by third-round TKO the Mexican Osvaldo «Perro» Núñez 5(0KO)-5(4).
The southpaw Lopez was too fast for his opponent, surprising him with long left hands after which he immediately stepped back. Núñez was giving a tactical fighter too much room to work, but it’s also true that when he eventually launched an offensive he missed his hands due to López’s steps back and took counter straight shots. In addition, in the second round Núñez suffered a count when he touched the canvas with his glove after a right hook to the head.
In the third round, a serious cut suffered by Núñez in his left eye made the referee take the fighter to the doctor, who allowed him to continue. However, a few seconds later the referee decided to stop the clash, since the cut was quite serious and was bleeding considerably. Then came the ever-present doubt in this type of situations: what had caused the cut, a punch, a headbutt or an elbow? According to the broadcast replay, it could have been caused by a left hook part of a combination, and indeed the final result was a TKO victory for López, although really one cannot be absolutely certain about how the cut happened, as on so many other occasions.
In any case, and beyond speculating about what could have happened if there had been no cut, it is true that López (19 years old) was clearly superior to his opponent before the end and that he showed obvious qualities that could lead him to be an important name in the super featherweight division if he is developed in the proper way and stays disciplined in his training.
