“Flechita” Castillo impuso su potencia sobre Ndulani en eliminatoria WBC del peso mínimo

Que el mexicano Luis “Flechita” Castillo 21(14KO)-0-1 era favorito para vencer al sudafricano Ayanda Ndulani 13(4KO)-3(2)-1 era incuestionable, pero no se esperaba que fuese a ganar con tanta facilidad. Y es que la ventaja en potencia y resistencia de Castillo fue descomunal, de modo que, aunque recibió nítidos golpes, no se vio afectado en ningún momento, derribó tres veces a su contrincante y se hizo con un triunfo por KOT en el cuarto round.
Desde el comienzo el zurdo Castillo encontró huecos para precisos cruzados y directos que alcanzaron con claridad el rostro de Ndulani, que intentó lanzar contraofensivas pero que erró golpes por los movimientos de cintura de su relajado oponente. La posesión de la iniciativa osciló, pero quien tuvo más resultados positivos fue Castillo, que en el segundo asalto impactó un fantástico gancho zurdo al hígado a la contra que dañó al sudafricano. Ndulani no tardó en recomponerse e impactó algunos buenos hooks ante las calmadas entradas de su contrincante, pero la impresión general era que parecía muchísimo más probable que él terminase en la lona que su contrincante.
De hecho, en el tercer round el visitante se vio obligado a poner la rodilla en la lona segundos después de un puño al torso. Estos no fueron los únicos problemas para Ndulani en el round, ya que cerca del final del asalto volvió a tocar la lona. El final era cuestión de tiempo, y en el cuarto episodio, aunque Ndulani intentó presionar primero y luego responder a las entradas del fuerte mexicano anotando buenos golpes al torso, terminó siendo derribado por un potente cruzado zurdo, deteniendo el árbitro la contienda.
Teniendo buena destreza, resulta absurdo que Castillo en ocasiones se deje golpear deliberadamente con tal de poder acortar la distancia o impactar una contra, pareciendo que esa tendencia a permitir trabajar a sus contrincantes podía ser peligrosa ante rivales de mayor nivel. Aun así, es preciso, contundente y tiene heterodoxa habilidad, lo que le permitió arrollar a un buen contrincante e irrumpir en la cumbre del peso mínimo, división en la que ahora es aspirante obligatorio del campeón WBC Panya Pradabsri por detrás del titular interino Yudai Shigeoka.

That Mexican Luis «Flechita» Castillo 21(14KO)-0-1 was the favorite to beat South African Ayanda Ndulani 13(4KO)-3(2)-1 was unquestionable, but it was not expected that he would win so easily. Castillo’s advantage in power and punch resistance was enormous so, although he received clear blows, he was not affected by them at all, knocked down his opponent three times and took a victory by fourth-round TKO.
From the beginning, the southpaw Castillo found openings for precise overhands and straight shots that landed in the face of Ndulani, who tried to launch counter-offensives but missed punches due to the waist movements of his relaxed opponent. The possession of the initiative shifted between both boxers, but the one who invariably had more positive results was Castillo, who in the second round connected a fantastic counter left hook to the liver that hurt the South African boxer. Ndulani recovered quickly and landed some good hooks to the head answering his opponent’s calm attacks, but the general impression was that the visitor seemed far more likely to end up on the canvas than his opponent.
In fact, in the third round Ndulani was forced to kneel on the canvas seconds after a body shot. These weren’t the only problems for Ndulani in the round, as near the end of the three minutes he touched the mat again. The conclusion was a matter of time, and in the fourth round, although first Ndulani tried to press and later sought to respond to the offensives from the strong Mexican landing good punches to the torso, he ended up being dropped by a powerful left overhand, the referee then stopping the contest.
Having skill, it is absurd that Castillo sometimes deliberately allows his opponent to hit him in order to shorten the distance or connect a counter, and it is evident that this could be very dangerous against higher-level fighters. Still, he is precise and has punch and unorthodox ability, which allowed him to overwhelm a good opponent and break into the top of the minimumweight division, as he is now mandatory challenger for WBC champion Panya Pradabsri behind interim titleholder Yudai Shigeoka.
