“Venado” López rompió el sueño mundialista de Conlan batiéndolo por KOT en el quinto asalto

Siete días después de que los aficionados irlandeses quedasen decepcionados por la derrota de Katie Taylor, este sábado se llevaron un nuevo revés: el irlandés Michael Conlan 18(9KO)-2(2), que era favorito para vencer su duelo ante el campeón mundial IBF del peso pluma, simplemente no pudo lidiar con la potencia del mexicano Luis Alberto “Venado” López 28(16KO)-2, que le batió por KOT en el quinto asalto.
El combate fue interesante e intenso desde el comienzo, con Conlan boxeando como zurdo e intentando imponer su jab, sus esquivas, sus golpes al torso y sus cruzados y directos zurdos ante un López que avanzaba firme tratando de impactar potentes, heterodoxos y peligrosos uppercuts y ganchos. En ocasiones, Conlan trabajaba con dureza en corta, llegando a poner en las cuerdas a su rival, mientras que en otras López sorprendía con sus golpes de poder en inesperadas trayectorias y arremetiendo desde lejos.
El público rugía con fuerza con Conlan impactando duros golpes al torso, pero entonces, en el tercer round, “El Venado” dejó tocado al local con sus fortísimos curvos. El retador pasó serios apuros, pero terminó el round atacando y conectando buenas manos. Aun así, en el cuarto volvió a llevarse claramente la peor parte y volvió a ser estremecido por los dos-uno y los ganchos de López. Era evidente que la pelea no iba a llegar al final, ya que Conlan estaba siendo sacudido constantemente, y que más tarde o más temprano iba a sucumbir, algo que sucedió en el quinto asalto. Entonces un duro uppercut diestro de López derrumbó sobre la lona a Conlan y puso fin al duelo.
Siendo compañero de escuadra del monarca WBO Robeisy Ramírez, una unificación parece un camino lógico para López en el futuro no muy lejano, combate que resultaría un muy interesante cruce entre técnica y fortaleza y entre ortodoxia y heterodoxia.

Seven days after Irish fans were disappointed by the defeat of Katie Taylor, this Saturday they suffered a new setback: Irishman Michael Conlan 18(9KO)-2(2), who was the favorite to win his duel against IBF world champion, simply couldn’t deal with the power of Mexican Luis Alberto “Venado” López 28(16KO)-2, who beat him by fifth-round TKO.
The fight was interesting and intense from the beginning, with Conlan boxing as southpaw trying to impose his jab, his dodges, his body shots and his left hands against López, who was moving forward firmly seeking to land powerful, unorthodox and dangerous uppercuts and hooks. At times, Conlan worked hard at close range, managing to put his opponent on the ropes, while at other times Lopez surprised with his power shots in unexpected angles and lunging from long distance.
The public roared with force with Conlan connecting hard blows to the torso, but then, in the third round, «El Venado» hurt the local with his very strong uppercuts and hooks. The challenger was in serious trouble, but finished the round attacking and landing good hands. Even so, in the fourth he clearly got the worst of the exchanges again and was rocked by Lopez’s two-ones and hooks.
It became evident that the fight was not going to reach a decision, since Conlan was being rocked constantly, and that sooner or later he was going to succumb, something that happened in the fifth round. Then a hard right uppercut from Lopez dropped Conlan hard to the canvas and closed the bout.
Considering that he is a teammate of WBO monarch Robeisy Ramírez, a unification seems a logical path for López in the not too distant future, fight that would be a very interesting clash between technique and strength and between orthodoxy and unorthodoxy.
