El español Frank Urquiaga 19(3KO)-3-1, pese a su bajo porcentaje de knockouts, logró derrotar por KOT en el décimo asalto al invicto francés Yazid Amghar 25(12KO)-1(1). Urquiaga tuvo el mérito añadido de obtener el triunfo como visitante y levantándose de un knockdown en el cuarto round. Así, Urquiaga se proclamó campeón de la Unión Europea del peso ligero, se emplazó a peleas significativas en el ámbito continental y se acercó a una potencial revancha ante Emiliano Marsili, aspirante al vacante cinturón de Europa.
En cuanto a la cartelera de Golden Boy Promotions, después de librarse con polémica de una derrota ante Franklin González, el peso gallo Manuel Flores 15(11KO)-1 terminó viendo su avance detenido por el estadounidense Walter Santibañes 12(2KO)-2, que le derrotó por amplia decisión unánime (100-90, 99-91, 99-91). Así, Flores necesita buscar la forma de evolucionar y salir del estancamiento, mientras Santibañes añade impulso con una cuarta victoria a su renacida carrera tras siete años y medio de inactividad.

En la eliminatoria WBA del peso minimosca, el venezolano Carlos Cañizales 26(19KO)-1(1)-1 venció al imbatido cubano Daniel Matellón 13(7KO)-1-2 por decisión técnica (77-73, 77-73, 76-74), perdiendo dos puntos el segundo por uso de la cabeza, con la que provocó un serio corte en su rival. Este resultado convierte a Cañizales en aspirante obligatorio del monarca unificado Kenshiro Teraji, a la vez que demuestra que Matellón tiene demasiados problemas para establecer controles firmes como para poder pensar que logrará éxitos de forma consistente en la cumbre de la división.
En esta misma cartelera, el olímpico argentino Francisco Daniel Verón 13(10KO)-0 se mantuvo invicto con una trabajada decisión dividida (96-94, 94-96, 100-90) sobre el visitante ruso Timur Kerefov 13(7KO)-1, pelea que, más allá del resultado, dio experiencia de calidad a ambos boxeadores.
Pasando al evento de ShoBox: The New Generation, el prospecto ruso del peso semipesado Ali Izmailov 11(7KO)-0 logró anotarse la victoria y mantenerse invicto contra el estadounidense Charles Foster 22(12KO)-1 venciéndolo con una decisión unánime (96-93, 96-93, 95-94). De todos modos, aunque Izmailov incluso se anotó un knockdown, su actuación fue decepcionante y muchos cuestionaron el veredicto final, así que, lejos de cumplir su objetivo de mostrar que es una amenaza para la parte alta de la categoría, su prestigio se llevó un revés.
En cuanto a los combates del peso semipesado del respaldo, tras evitar la derrota por poco en un par de ocasiones, el estadounidense Richard Vansiclen 13(6KO)-1-1 esta vez terminó perdiendo su invicto con una decisión mayoritaria (95-93, 95-93 y 94-94) ante el olímpico colombiano Juan Carrillo 11(8KO)-0, que aun así sufrió un knockdown y tuvo notables dificultades, y el australiano Clay Waterman 11(8KO)-0 tuvo un exitoso debut en suelo estadounidense batiendo al local Kenmon Evans 10(3KO)-1-1 por decisión unánime (78-74, 78-74 y 77-75).
Por otro lado, el peso superligero Myquan Williams 19(8KO)-0-2 se vio sorprendido por el brasileño Paulo César Galdino 12(8KO)-7(4)-2, que logró su segundo empate consecutivo peleando como visitante en Estados Unidos ante un boxeador invicto.
Por lo que se refiere a la velada de Frank Warren, como se podía esperar, todos los favoritos se impusieron antes del límite y quedaron emplazados a pasos adelante. El peso pesado David Adeleye 12(10KO)-0 terminó en cinco asaltos con Emir Ahmatovic 12(9KO)-2(2), el peso ligero Mark Chamberlain 13(9KO)-0 necesitó un solo round para asestarle a Marvin Demollari 12(2KO)-5(1) su primera derrota por detención y el peso superligero Henry Turner 11(4KO)-0 forzó el abandono de Tom Farrell 21(6KO)-7(2) en el sexto asalto.
Concluyendo con el viernes, el cinturón de la Commonwealth del peso supermosca encontró un nuevo dueño, siendo éste Marcel Braithwaite 15(0KO)-3-1, que superó a Ryan Farrag 21(6KO)-5 por decisión unánime (115-114, 115-114, 115-114), mientras que Connor Butler 11(1KO)-0-1 se proclamó campéon de Europa del peso mosca, y retuvo su cinturón de la Commonwealth, batiendo por decisión unánime (118-109, 117-110 y 115-112) a Matt Windle 7(1KO)-5-1.

Josh Taylor 19(13KO)-1 y Teófimo López 19(13KO)-1 se enfrentaron en un duelo decisivo entre púgiles en crisis, siendo el segundo quien logró una vital victoria unánime (111-117, 113-115, 113-115) y se coronó campeón mundial WBO del peso superligero. Esto supone que Taylor verá agravada su comprometida posición, algo que contrasta con la nueva situación de López, que aunque seguramente esté lejos de lograr la necesaria regularidad que necesita dentro y fuera del ring, ahora apunta a mayúsculas pugnas y nombres.
Cambiando de evento, el campeón mundial IBF del peso mosca Sunny Edwards 20(4KO)-0 derrotó a Andrés Campos 15(4KO)-1 por decisión unánime (117-111, 117-111, 117-111) y simplemente hizo evidente por enésima vez que necesita afrontar una unificación.
En cuanto al respaldo, exceptuando a Youssef Khoumari 15(6KO)-2-1, que perdió por decisión unánime (93-97, 94-97, 94-96) ante Reece Bellotti 16(13KO)-5(2), los demás favoritos ganaron sus combates. La prospecta Ellie Scotney 7(0KO)-0 se proclamó campeona mundial IBF del peso supergallo venciendo de forma unánime (98-92, 98-92, 97-93) a Cherneka Johnson 15(6KO)-2; la campeona WBA del peso gallo Nina Hughes 6(2KO)-0 ganó por decisión unánime (100-90, 100-90, 99-91) a Katie Healy 6(0KO)-1; y el invicto peso crucero Cheavon Clarke 6(5KO)-0 batió por KOT en el quinto round a David Jamieson 10(7KO)-3(2).
Todo estaba pensado para que un mucho más fresco y grande Jaime Munguía 42(33KO)-0 añadiese un nombre a su récord ante un Sergiy Derevyanchenko 14(10KO)-5 castigado y al borde del retiro, pero la jugada casi le sale muy mal a Golden Boy Promotions, ya que Munguía se tuvo que aplicar muy a fondo para lograr un triunfo por la mínima y cuestionado por muchos en una entretenida y emocionante guerra. Las puntuaciones fueron de 114-113, 114-113, 115-112, lo que significa que sin un knockdown favorable a Munguía en el último round, la pelea habría terminado en empate.
De ese modo, aunque se mantuvo invicto y aumentó su fama como boxeador que ofrece peleas entretenidas, sigue pareciendo que un peso supermedio en plenitud y del máximo nivel le pondría en dificultades críticas.
En cuanto al respaldo, el peso supermedio Shane Mosley Jr. 20(11KO)-4 derrotó en el séptimo asalto al limitado D’Mitrius Ballard 21(13KO)-2(2)-1 y el peso mosca Ricardo Sandoval 22(16KO)-2 no puedo noquear a Rocco Santomauro 22(6KO)-2(1) y se tuvo que conformar con un triunfo por decisión unánime (98-92, 96-94, 96-94), mientras que Mariana Juárez 55(19KO)-13(3)-4 demostró el error de que siga aplazando vez tras vez su retiro cayendo por decisión unánime (80-72, 79-73, 79-73) ante Mayeli Flores 10(3KO)-1-1.
Finalmente en cuanto a las veladas destacadas, la campeona mundial WBA del peso supergallo Mayerlín Rivas 17(11KO)-4-1 fue afortunada por retener su cinturón ante la invicta Nazarena Romero 13(7KO)-0-1, cosa que logró con un empate por decisión técnica (48-46, 47-47, 44-50) tras ser derribada en una ocasión. En cualquier caso, más allá de la polémica, la vulnerabilidad mostrada por Rivas ha hecho que Eddie Hearn se muestre muy interesado en organizar una unificación entre ésta y Ellie Scotney.
En el respaldo del Rivas-Romero, el peso ligero José Matías Romero 27(9KO)-3(1) regresó a la senda del triunfo venciendo por decisión mayoritaria (98-92, 96-94 y 95-95) a René Tellez Girón 17(11KO)-3 y el invicto peso pesado Ivan Dychko 13(12KO)-0 le asestó una derrota en el segundo asalto a Ariel Bracamonte 12(6KO)-11(7).

-El francés Franck Petitjean 24(6KO)-6(1)-3, pese a su inactividad, logró vencer por decisión unánime (115-113, 115-114 y 114-114) al español Samuel Molina 25(11KO)-3(1), que otra vez se quedó corto en una pelea en el extranjero. Petitjean se proclamó campeón de Europa del peso superligero y ahora deberá enfrentarse a Enock Poulsen.
–Yuki Nonaka 35(10KO)-11(2)-3 se convirtió en campeón de Japón del peso supermedio batiendo a Tyson Koki 15(13KO)-6(4)-3 por decisión unánime (98-92, 97-93, 97-93) y el peso superpluma Masanori Rikiishi 14(9KO)-1(1) superó las actuaciones de Abdullaev y Batyrgaziev ante el panameño Ricardo Núñez 23(21KO)-6(3) derrotándole por KO en el tercer round.

Cerrando el artículo, queda por mencionar que el excampeón mundial unificado Katsunari Takayama 33(12KO)-9(2) puso fin a dos años de inactividad venciendo al filipino Joel Lino 12(5KO)-5-1 por decisión unánime (77-74, 77-74, 76-75) y el exaspirante mundial supermosca Sho Ishida 33(16KO)-3 llevó a cuatro su racha de triunfos con una decisión dividida (116-112, 116-112, 110-118) ante el dominicano Victor Santillán 13(5KO)-1.

Spaniard Frank Urquiaga 19(3KO)-3-1, despite his low knockout ratio, managed to defeat unbeaten Frenchman Yazid Amghar 25(12KO)-1(1) by tenth-round TKO. Urquiaga had the added merit of obtaining the win as a visitor and getting up from a knockdown in the fourth round. Thus, Urquiaga became European Union lightweight champion, secured new significant fights in the continental stage and got closer to a potential rematch against Emiliano Marsili, challenger for the vacant European belt.
As for the Golden Boy Promotions card, after avoiding a controversial loss against Franklin González, bantamweight Manuel Flores 15(11KO)-1 ended up suffering a defeat against American Walter Santibañes 12(2KO)-2, who won by unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, 99-91). Thus, Flores needs to find a way to evolve, while Santibañes adds momentum to his career with this fourth straight victory since the end of his very long inactivity.

In the WBA light flyweight eliminator, Venezuelan Carlos Cañizales 26(19KO)-1(1)-1 defeated the unbeaten Cuban Daniel Matellón 13(7KO)-1-2 by technical decision (77-73, 77-73, 76 -74), the latter losing two points due to the use of the head, with which he caused a serious cut on his opponent. With this result, Cañizales became mandatory challenger for unified champion Kenshiro Teraji, while Matellón showed that he has too many difficulties establishing a firm dominance to consider that he will achieve consistent successes at the top.
On this same card, Argentine Olympian Francisco Daniel Verón 13(10KO)-0 remained undefeated with a hard-fought split decision win (96-94, 94-96, 100-90) over visiting Russian Timur Kerefov 13(7KO)-1 in a fight that, beyond the result, gave quality experience to both boxers.
Moving on to the ShoBox: The New Generation event, Russian light heavyweight prospect Ali Izmailov 11(7KO)-0 managed to score a victory and remain undefeated against American Charles Foster 22(12KO)-1 beating him with a unanimous decision (96-93, 96-93, 95-94). However, although Izmailov even scored a knockdown, his performance was disappointing and many questioned the final verdict, so far from fulfilling his goal of showing he’s a threat to the top, his prestige took a hit.
As for the light heavyweight fights on the undercard, after narrowly avoiding defeat on a couple of occasions, American Richard Vansiclen 13(6KO)-1-1 this time ended up losing his undefeated record in a majority decision loss (95-93, 95-93 and 94-94) to Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo 11(8KO)-0 who, in any case, suffered a knockdown and had notable problems to win, and Australian Clay Waterman 11(8KO)-0 had a successful American debut beating local fighter Kenmon Evans 10(3KO)-1-1 by unanimous decision (78-74, 78-74 and 77-75).
On the other hand, super lightweight Mykquan Williams 19(8KO)-0-2 was close to being upset by Brazilian Paulo César Galdino 12(8KO)-7(4)-2, who scored his second consecutive draw fighting as a visitor in the United States against an undefeated boxer.
As far as Frank Warren’s evening, as might be expected, all the favorites prevailed by stoppage and aimed to steps up in competition. Josh Taylor 19(13KO)-1 and Teófimo López 19(13KO)-1 met in a decisive duel between fighters in crisis, the latter achieving a crucial unanimous decision victory (111-117, 113-115, 113-115) with which he became WBO super lightweight champion. Thus, Taylor is now in an even more compromised situation, while López, although he is surely far from achieving the regularity that he needs inside and outside the ring, now aims for a major fight.
Regarding the Matchroom Boxing event, IBF world flyweight champion Sunny Edwards 20(4KO)-0 defeated Andrés Campos 15(4KO)-1 via unanimous decision (117-111, 117-111, 117-111) and made it clear by umpteenth time that he needs to face a unification.

Munguía had to apply himself very thoroughly to achieve a narrow and questioned victory in an entertaining and exciting war. The scores were 114-113, 114-113, 115-112, so without the last-round knockdown that Munguía scored, the fight would have ended in a draw.
Thus, altough he is still undefeated and he increased his prestige as a boxer who delivers entertaining fights, it seems that a prime, high-level super middleweight would put him in critical trouble.
As for the undercard, super middleweight Shane Mosley Jr. 20(11KO)-4 defeated limited D’Mitrius Ballard 21(13KO)-2(2)-1 in the seventh round and flyweight Ricardo Sandoval 22(16KO)-2 was unable to knock out Rocco Santomauro 22(6KO)-2(1) and had to settle for a unanimous decision win (98-92, 96-94, 96-94).
