El prospecto francés del peso pluma Christ Esabe venció al mexicano José Armando “El Pamba” Valdés por decisión unánime de los jueces, dando un paso adelante más en su desarrollo. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
En cuanto al otro joven francés que se midió a un mexicano el jueves, el peso superwélter Bakary Samake 13(7KO)-0 también se emplazó a peleas más significativas imponiéndose a Mariel Agúndez 9(8KO)-2(1)-1 por clara decisión unánime de los jueces (99-90, 99-90, 98-91).
Por último en cuanto al jueves, el peso crucero Yuri Kashinsky 22(19KO)-3(1) venció al imbatido Timur Sakulin 12(7KO)-1 por decisión unánime (97-92, 96-93, 95-94), por lo que siguió estabilizándose y en el último cuarto del año podría afrontar una pelea importante en la que seguramente no será favorito para ganar.

En ocasiones, boxeadores sin poner a prueba se quedan muy cortos en sus primeros tests serios, si bien este no fue el caso del peso superligero Tarik Zaina, que logró sacar un empate en su debut estadounidense peleando contra el clasificado mundial mexicano Jesús Saracho. Sábado 24 de junio
Como era de esperar una vez que el campeón mundial WBA del peso supermosca Joshua Franco 18(8KO)-2(1)-3 perdió su cinturón en la báscula, en el día del combate éste fue muy inferior al japonés Kazuto Ioka 30(15KO)-2-1, que venció por decisión unánime, considerando muchos las cartulinas (115-113, 116-112, 116-112) demasiado ajustadas. Tras el combate, un desmotivado Franco anunció el retiro, mientras que Ioka, al que extrañamente le ha acompañado la suerte en muchos momentos críticos de su carrera, tendrá la oportunidad ahora de intentar pactar una unificación.
Respecto al evento de PBC, el dominicano Carlos Adames mantuvo su posición como retador obligatorio del campeón WBC del peso medio Jermall Charlo batiendo por KOT en el noveno round a un Julian Williams que fue manifiestamente inferior. En el respaldo, el campeón IBF del peso supermosca Fernando Martínez defendió su título batiendo por KOT en el undécimo asalto al duro Jade Bornea y el peso superwélter Erickson Lubin venció en el quinto round a Luis Arias. Pasando a la cartelera de Matchroom Boxing, el peso supermedio Edgar Berlanga 21(16KO)-0, como no podía de ser de otro modo ante un rival escogido como mera víctima, se hizo con una victoria sobre Jason Quigley 20(14KO)-3(2). De todos modos, aunque Quigley tiene problemas de encaje, aunque había sido vapuleado por Demetrius Andrade y Tureano Johnson y aunque Berlanga se anotó tres knockdowns, el invicto fue incapaz una vez más de lograr una victoria por detención, imponiéndose por decisión unánime (118-106, 116-108, 116-108) y generando nuevas dudas sobre su potencial en la cumbre de la división.
En el respaldo, el peso pesado Adam Kownacki 20(15KO)-4(3) continuó en caída libre perdiendo por KOT en el octavo asalto contra Joe Cusumano 22(20KO)-4(1), que recibirá pronto una buena oportunidad en la que se quedará corto, mientras que el peso superligero Reshat Mati 14(8KO)-0 se deshizo por KOT en el noveno episodio de Dakota Linger 13(9KO)-6(3)-3.
Por muy reducida diferencia (95-94, 95-94, 97-92), el excampeón mundial del peso superpluma Tevin Farmer 31(6KO)-5(2)-1 retornó al ring y a la senda del triunfo venciendo a Avery Sparrow 11(4KO)-5(1). Si Farmer lograse un buen número de combates de rodaje y recuperase su mejor rendimiento, podría aspirar a lograr algunas victorias relevantes. Con todo, a estas alturas de su carrera parece más probable que algunas promotoras importantes simplemente lo escojan para intentar dar experiencia y victorias de relieve a boxeadores con pretensiones mundialistas.
El sábado también se disputaron estos otros combates:
-El prospecto danés del peso supermedio Jacob Bank 10(5KO)-0 no sólo se mantuvo invicto y logró el acceso a los rankings, sino que venció a Ralfs Vilcans 15(6KO)-1 por amplísima decisión unánime (100-89, 100-89, 100-90).
-El 10º WBO del peso superwélter Slawa Spomer 18(9KO)-0 venció en el octavo episodio al italiano Felice Moncelli 24(6KO)-8(3)-1, acercándose más a una pelea decisiva para su carrera.
-El peso supermedio Petro Ivanov 17(12KO)-0-2 se afianzó en el top 10 IBF venciendo a Gino Kanters 10(4KO)-5(2)-3 por KO en el duodécimo asalto y la peso pluma Nina Meinke 17(4KO)-3(1) dio un paso importante para acercarse a un mundial venciendo a Kimika Miyoshi 17(6KO)-14(3)-2.
-El peso medio Ismael Seck 11(5KO)-7-2 llevó a cinco su racha de victorias truncando el récord invicto de Anas El Abid 12(3KO)-1(1) con un KO en el octavo round.
-El exaspirante mundial tailandés Danai Ngiabphukhiaw 17(9KO)-4(2) fue noqueado en el sexto round por el peligroso filipino Marco John Rementizo 14(11KO)-4(2), que podría aparecer en el top 15 de algún organismo.
-Tanto el peso superpluma Walter Matías Leiva 11(1KO)-3-2 como el peso wélter Leonardo Ariel Fonseca 17(9KO)-1-1 retuvieron sus cinturones de Sudamérica. Leiva empató (96-94, 94-96, 95-95) en la revancha contra Nicolás Emiliano Paz 8(3KO)-8(1)-3, mientras que Fonseca venció por KOT en el noveno asalto a Cristian Ariel Reggiardo 9(5KO)-5(3).

French featherweight prospect Christ Esabe defeated Mexican José Armando “El Pamba” Valdés by unanimous decision, taking another step forward in his development. Read more following the link.
As for the other young Frenchman who faced a Mexican on Thursday, super welterweight Bakary Samake 13(7KO)-0 also aimed for more significant fights after beating Mariel Agúndez 9(8KO)-2(1)-1 by clear unanimous decision (99-90, 99-90, 98-91).
Finally as for Thursday, cruiserweight Yuri Kashinsky 22(19KO)-3(1) defeated the unbeaten Timur Sakulin 12(7KO)-1 by unanimous decision (97-92, 96-93, 95-94), win with which he continued to stabilize his career. In the last quarter of the year Kashinsky could face an important fight in which he will be an obvious underdog.

Sometimes untested fighters come up short in their first serious tests, though this was not the case for super lightweight Tarik Zaina, who fought to a draw in his American debut against a Mexican world ranked boxer like Jesús Saracho. Official video of the Saracho-Zaina event following the link.
Saturday, June 24
As expected once the WBA super flyweight champion Joshua Franco 18(8KO)-2(1)-3 lost his belt on the scales, on fight night he was much inferior to Japanese Kazuto Ioka 30(15KO)-2-1, the latter winning a unanimous decision with scorecards many considered too close (115-113, 116-112, 116-112). After the bout, an unmotivated Franco announced his retirement, while Ioka, who has strangely been lucky at many critical moments in his career, will now have the opportunity to try to negotiate a unification.
Regarding the PBC event, Dominican Carlos Adames maintained his position as mandatory challenger for WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo beating Julian Williams by ninth-round TKO. In the main support, IBF super flyweight champion Fernando Martínez defended his title defeating the tough Jade Bornea by eleventh-round TKO and super welterweight Erickson Lubin defeated Luis Arias in the fifth round. Moving on to the Matchroom Boxing card, super middleweight Edgar Berlanga 21(16KO)-0, as it could not be otherwise against a rival chosen as a mere victim, scored a win over Jason Quigley 20(14KO)-3 (2). Still, although Quigley has chin issues, although he had been pummeled by Demetrius Andrade and Tureano Johnson, and although Berlanga scored three knockdowns, the undefeated was once again unable to pull off a stoppage, and he won via unanimous decision (118- 106, 116-108, 116-108), raising new doubts about his potential in future fights against the division’s top.
In the undercard, heavyweight Adam Kownacki 20(15KO)-4(3) continued his free fall losing by eighth-round TKO against Joe Cusumano 22(20KO)-4(1), who will soon receive a good opportunity in which he will come up short, while super lightweight Reshat Mati 14(8KO)-0 defeated Dakota Linger 13(9KO)-6(3)-3 by ninth-round TKO.
By a very small difference (95-94, 95-94, 97-92), former super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer 31(6KO)-5(2)-1 returned to the ring and to winning ways defeating Avery Sparrow 11(4KO)-5(1). If Farmer gets a good number of tune-up bouts and recovers his best boxing, he could achieve some good wins. Still, at this point in his career it seems more likely that some major promoter will simply select him to try to give some experience to one of his fighters with world title aspirations.

-Danish super middleweight prospect Jacob Bank 10(5KO)-0 not only remained undefeated and gained access to the world rankings, but also beat Ralfs Vilcans 15(6KO)-1 by landslide unanimous decision (100-89, 100-89, 100-90).
-WBO No. 10 super welterweight Slawa Spomer 18(9KO)-0 defeated Italian Felice Moncelli 24(6KO)-8(3)-1 in the eighth episode, getting closer to a decisive fight for his career.
-Super middleweight Petro Ivanov 17(12KO)-0-2 established himself in the IBF top 10 by defeating Gino Kanters 10(4KO)-5(2)-3 by twelfth-round KO and featherweight Nina Meinke 17(4KO)-3(1) took an important step to get closer to a world title fight beating Kimika Miyoshi 17(6KO)-14(3)-2.
-Middleweight Ismael Seck 11(5KO)-7-2 brought his winning streak to five by stopping in the eight round the unbeaten Anas El Abid’s 12(3KO)-1(1).
-Former world title challenger Danai Ngiabphukhiaw 17(9KO)-4(2) was knocked out in the sixth round by the dangerous Filipino Marco John Rementizo 14(11KO)-4(2), who could now appear in the top 15 of one of the sanctioning bodies.
-Both super featherweight Walter Matías Leiva 11(1KO)-3-2 and welterweight Leonardo Ariel Fonseca 17(9KO)-1-1 defended their South American belts. Leiva fought to a draw (96-94, 94-96, 95-95) in his rematch against Nicolás Emiliano Paz 8(3KO)-8(1)-3, while Fonseca defeated Cristian Ariel Reggiardo 9(5KO)-5(3) by ninth-round TKO.
